So here we are at the end (hopefully the very end) of the Death of Snake Eyes story line. After viewing recent G.I. Joe Solicitations, I can’t say it looks like it’s going to be the end. It looks like IDW’s G.I. Joe RAH is going to stick with the walking tragedy that is Throwdown. After reading issue #215 I am not sure there was even a point to killing off Snake Eyes?
“The Death of Snake Eyes,” Part 4. As a hero falls, a new one must rise to take his place. G.I. JOE mourns Snake Eyes and prepares for what comes next…
If you decide to read on this review will contain major spoilers.
One good thing that I want to directly point out is Cobra Commander is back in his classic costume. Unfortunately for the rest of the book I cant say the same. It’s official, Sean Collins aka Throwdown is now Snake Eyes! Oh and how convenient it was that his vocal cords were damaged, and he can no longer speak… Was there any point to killing off Snake Eyes?
I was also looking for a real funeral for Snake Eyes that never showed up. The G.I. Joe team thinks they can’t handle Cobra if they find out Snake Eyes is dead. So this is the justification for Fake Eyes. I was hoping that this issue would wrap up the story with Fake Eyes fading into the background, but it looks like Larry Hama is doubling down on his new direction. Recent G.I. Joe Solicitations show Fake Eyes fighting along side of Scarlett all the way up to issue #218.
The action in the book is decent, and we see some top tier Cobra agents in play, but I just don’t care about Sean Collins and that story line at all. Not even a little.
I take back what I sad before….. I welcome any ridiculous reason for IDW to bring Snake Eyes back. It could be anything, Ninja Magic, Snake Eyes becomes a Zombie and they find a cure, or he was not dead in the first place, beat to death cheesy over used story arc… Anything but this!
So lets end on a positive note, how about that awesome cover Antonio Fuso put together! The only real piece of artwork that has show real loss from the G.I. Joe team IMO. Great work on that cover.

I never thought to be a hater, but this.... It's almost impossible to defend. With the direction this comic is heading, and the apparent end of the Punisher, it looks like I'm done with comics.
The Delta says
Can they just end this series too and pass the license to someone who really cared about it?
Contraband says
Wow! That has to be the shittiest comic ever! The writer needs to be fired, and blackballed from the business...how do you kill off,and replace SE? this lame ass dude is no ninja master with years of combat experience. First conflict with SS,and this imposter is a dead man,if not I call shenanigans! If he can match SS?.. That discredits the real SE,and spits in the face of all the fans. They need to do one of those "wake up,and it was all a dream" finishes, cause this just straight sucks.
DESTRO says
I would hate for that to happen. IDW is capable of awesome work, it just has not been showing up in G.I. Joe this year but that can quickly change.

Lets not forget that Sean Collins got so injured clinging to a giant robot as it was flying through space that was being controlled by Serpentor's mind. He got burnt during reentry while hanging on OUTSIDE the robot and was saved only because he was wearing a toxo-viper suit.
Good grief, Cobra La would be better than this.
Jay West says
My major complaint (and there are others) is how do you differentiate between one mute scarred ninja and another? The coincidences are so lame. Use this opportunity to shake things up. Have a Snake Eyes who can talk. Maybe he doesn't talk in the field to maintain his cover as Snake Eyes, but does at HQ in debriefs. Why go through all of of this to have a character who at the end of the day is going to be basically the same as the other.

So, let's kill Snake Eyes, but burn, scar and render another dude mute so that he can step right into Snake Eyes' shoes, because if Cobra finds out the real Snake Eyes is dead we're in trouble, because apparently he's the only Joe worth a damn? Oh, and Snake Eyes would want a relative stranger to have his most personal effects and not Scarlett or anyone like that. Holy shitballs.
Hama's lost it. He was brilliant in the 80's but he's gone the way of John Carpenter; his peak is well, well behind him.
Actually, I met him recently at a con in NY, and after thanking him for his contributions to Joe over the years, I asked if Snake Eyes is REALLY dead. His reply:
"He's dead! But we have a new Snake Eyes now." It was like he was saying they're interchangeable or something. I dunno, and I didn't ask what he meant because I didn't want to come across as disrespectful. The man IS a legend, after all.
Serpentor III says
Man and I thought Marvel comics has problems. I have not read much of the recent joe comics but this makes me want to go back and read the old 80s Marvel series again.
