Finally! G.I. Joe fans get a return to normalcy with G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #218. It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed reading a current ongoing issue of G.I. Joe ARAH and that time has come. This issue is a classic “one-shot” reborn to loosely connect with Cobra Rising.
“G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #218
COBRA RISING! Cobra Commander’s latest operation is about to unleash itself on G.I. Joe?”
If you decide to read on this review will contain Major Spoilers.
If your a long time reader of G.I. Joe comics, the fist thing that comes to mind with this story line is “Shakedown” issue #34 of the classic Marvel run of ARAH. G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #218 is basically a “one-shot” from front to back and is instantly one of the best issues from the last two years of the IDW run. It’s loosely connect with Cobra Rising, and I’m just fine with that. The book sets up the action well and the pacing of the book is right on target! Well worth picking up for the casual reader, because you don’t need to know anything about the G.I. Joe IDW run to understand what’s going on. This is what G.I. Joe fans want to read!
I welcome all of you on the Tank that have been keeping up with the story to sound off and let us know what you think. See you after the jump.

Looks like the set-up to an issue-long homage to "Shakedown" which was one of my favorite issues of the original comic series.

I've never liked this running gag over Ghostrider's name. These people are supposed to be the best of the best, but apparently his contribution is so minimal and the other Joes care so little for him that they can't even bother to remember his code name. If the legalese people prohibit the writers from using his name in the comics, just drop the character or give him a new name, because the running gag where nobody can remember it makes the Joes look like bunch of assholes.

Why does the Strato-viper look dead-on identical to Sneak Peek?
mamunestor says
It was a copyright thing when GI Joe was published by Marvel. Marvel said they can't use the name. Now it's just cause Hama wants to keep the joke going. The artists have put his code name on his aircraft in the recent past. That's as close as we're gonna get.
solosam says
I know why it happened. But that's also irrelevant.
It was a stupid idea then, it's stupid now, and they should have either corrected the problem or dropped the joke.
