Cobra World Order part one kicks off with this issue and starts to piece the puzzle together for what’s actually going on with Cobra. Several high-level Cobra agents jocky for position, while G.I. Joe try’s to put the bigger picture together for what they are up against.
G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #219
“As suspicious Cobra activity flares up around the globe, Hawk leads a strike team to try and get to the bottom of the sinister organization’s latest plot. But the deeper G.I. Joe digs, the more chilling Cobra’s master plan becomes?”
If you decide to read on this review will contain Major Spoilers.
Cobra World Order part one has kicked off! In typical fashion Cobra Commander has put his plan in motion (one that nobody has any details on) and has set the rest of Cobra and it’s various agents into the usual power struggle, mostly to find out why they are being kept in the dark, and everybody wanting their share of the action.
The CWO story has a good pace in this issue with decent action. But…. the IDW team continues to focus on the Death of Snake Eyes story line that just manages to take up valuable story space (four-pages worth) that could have been used to push the Cobra World Order story line further along. I will NEVER be good with how the new Fake Eyes story has gone down, and to continue that sub-story inside a huge event like Cobra World Order is a massive distraction that takes away from the focus of the book.
Some of the cool references inside G.I. Joe ARAH #219 is the new Dreadnok base located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens (that has shown up now in a few issues) and Cobra Commanders Hooded Rubber Ducky. Also I feel the need to point out Destro the Electrician! He never really says he personally installed those devices but I’m just going to go there and think he wanted to make sure the job was done right personally. #CobraToast
Well that’s really it for now. As always this is just one mans opinion on the current state of G.I. Joe Comics. I welcome all of you on the Tank that have been keeping up with the story to sound off and let us know what you think. See you after the jump.

Not a bad book but they still are dragging out the Death of Snake Eyes.

Yes, Fake Eyes bit is a waste of time. I personally have no problem with Sean taking the mantle of top ninja on the team, but not AS Snake Eyes. I see absolutely NO benefit to pretending SE is still alive. As a result, it seems like straight up foolishness.

The rest of the issue seems to be spinning its wheels. Cool to see Big Boa/Cesspool? Yep. But same 'ol same 'ol Cobra is up to something big--vaguely big? The sell job feels like it's going to be one big disappointment; after all, Hama doesn't know what it is yet, as we all know by now that he writes each page as he goes. :/
Stormgard says
Was pretty disappointed myself. The Fake Eyes thing drags on, as does the whole superBAT/blue ninja thing.
Ugh.

I admit it... glad I dropped the series. Never, ever, ever, EVER thought I'd say that. I used to take hours off work to get the Devil's Due stuff. Now, I actively get angry when the local guy suggests it; following is a true exchange, minus paraphrasing because it was a month or so ago.
"Hey, you bought those GI Joe figures the other day! Want to pick up the comic?"
"No, thanks."
"Why not, you're a fan, right?"
"You have a Batman shirt on."
"Yeah."
"You wanna go watch Batman & Robin?"
"No-... Oh. ...... oh...... sorry."
ozzie92 says
I will keep buying until Hama stops...but it's only for the nostalgia I get by picking up a newly-issued comic from the local vendor. That, and the "it's been 30 days since the last one...maybe, just maybe, there's a killer storyline waiting to be found" sense of hope.
I even have to talk my son into sitting down to read it with me. He always asks first, "Which comic, The Walking Dead?"
"No...Joe."
"Oh. I guess."
Stalker says
What's hard for me, is that what is going on with Paris, then also the front page tribute to Master Sergeant Wheeler, would make for better contemporary Joe-stories than ones about robots, Fake-eyes, and giant eyeballs.
When I was a kid, I can think of so many Hama stories that helped me make sense of a (at times) terrifying world. That is one of the top functions his story-telling served. And he has abandoned those stories to dwell on the nightmares of Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking!
GIJOHN says
Agree with every word Stalker.. The sci-fi story lines are just rediculus. Hama needs to bring back real world stories. Sad to say I haven't picked up an issue since the whole Serpentor revival story.
ozzie92 says
While I agree, it's times like these where comics/toys tend to deviate from real world troubles. See Adventure Team...

Well, I am enjoying ARAH a bit. I like the escapism, and don't need it to be realistic. I like how it uses a big cast, and has developed new characters and ideas. To each their own.
I don't like how negative things have become across every area of Joe-dom. Don't like the comics, don't like the movies, don't like the Collector Club...maybe I am just easily pleased. What ever the case, I will take what we currently have and enjoy it.
