The oft-forgotten Hasbro Pulse website saw an update about GI Joe a few days ago. While merely a spotlight of 3 of GI Joe’s most popular women characters, the timing of the appearance and some of the terminology raise some interesting possibilities.
These quotes in particular:
They’re three of the many inspiring women who are catalysts for the lasting popularity of G.I. Joe.In an arena historically dominated by males, the women of GI JOE and COBRA rose to the top of their fields—for good or evil—and dominated. As diverse as they are gifted, three of these women play intricate parts to the operation of respective groups, and neither the JOEs nor COBRA would function as well without them.
As Hasbro moves forward with its expanded universe, including a new iteration of GI Joe, making the brand new and progressive have been uttered a lot from Hasbro. With Hasbro set to unveil its “Imagibox” at the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair in just a few weeks, could this be preparing us for what a new GI Joe might look like?

With the success of Rey and Jynn Erso in the Star Wars brand (especially with Erso’s prominent role in the blockbuster Rogue One), could we see the next generation of GI Joe be lead by a woman? (Especially given the comics have had Scarlett as the team leader for a number of years now)
What are your thoughts? Share them with us after the break.

I hate to be that guy but I do find a good chuckle in the thought that for YEARS fans have been asking for more female characters and for years the response was, "Female characters don't sell."
And now that its trendy...guess what they seem to have an interest in?

For me and probably some others it's because it feels like a lack of respect to the source material or to the fans of different characters.

My thoughts are simple and can be summed up in one gif:

I'm just hoping this means Hasbro will finally explore in live action Lady Jaye's mime skills.

You beat me to it. Yes it feels like a cheap PR stunt.
Honestly though if any good can come of this then I am all for it, but then again why focus on the three characters? I can think of a handful of great female characters right off the top of my head not to mention how many more can be introduced.

I told them that was BS. "Joe sales have cratered. Female characters don't sell."
To, "Year of the female! The club is back! Growing the brand!"

FYI What we’ll actually be getting is a “GI Joe Action Girls” line, and it will be modeled very closely on Mattel’s DC Super Hero Girls action dolls line. We will be getting 12” action dolls of our beloved (mostly female) characters, in various different action-ready outfits. Many new female characters to be introduced.
Here, they will look something like this:
Remember you heard it from me first, folks. I hope I've gotten you all very excited. I know that Hasbro is really banking on this new line. Yo Joe!

Often females don't sell because the head sculpts are a turd. It's like they don't know what a woman looks like. Also body proportions are sooooo poorly done. It's like the nerds doing the sculpting have never seen a female body, which is crazy cause I'm sure they look at copious amounts of porn.
Zarana SDCC= PRIME EXAMPLE OF AN INCREDIBLY DONE FEMALE FIGURE....and they did a limited release of it.... brilliant.
