According to USA Today, Toys R Us will begin the liquidation process on Thursday, March 22nd 2018. The current plan is for all stores to be closed by the end of June 2018. No word, at this time, how deep the discounts will be or which products will be initially discounted. Here’s what the article had to say:
“The timetable was disclosed Tuesday at a hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Va. The toy superstore chain, which last week announced plans to dissolve its U.S. operations, came seeking court approval for its liquidation sale plan.
Some store may close earlier, he said, if inventory sells out faster.
The company’s distribution centers, which supply the stores, will close before the stores do, said Bill Kosturos, vice chairman of U.S. restructuring for Alvarez & Marsal, one of the companies advising Toys R Us in the liquidation. Otherwise, the operation is expected to take 14 weeks.”

This really sucks. Damn!! A lot of memories from both child and adulthood. I can see a lot collectors hauling ass to TRU to scoop up any goodies if there is anything to be had. I wish all the employees all the best in there ventures and can find work ASAP. When GIJOE hits the all over town will begin. There goes the gas bill.

I stopped by Toys R Us today. It was packed to the gills with product. Pegs were FULL. Shelves were FULL. They must be clearing out the warehouses and stuffing it all in the stores. It will be interesting to see what they can sell thru before they close.
As I was walking down the ENTIRE AISLE of Tru Heros product - I couldn't help but think that 'maybe' the closing of Toys R Us could be a good thing for GIJoe - and action figures in general. I always hated that Toys R Us simply made their OWN GIJoe line instead of supporting Hasbro. Seemed like a 'shooting yourself in the foot' moment to me.
Opinions?

No, Toys R Us ALWAYS supported GI Joe even in the darkest times for the brand. It's Hasbro who's not supporting the line.

Hmm wish they had a list of the stores and when the sales would begin. I'm gonna go to the only tru in ak tomorrow and see what I get, but it would be pretty disappointing to not see any sales.

Good riddance never could get anything there and all the exclusives always sold out at the web site or never in the store where I live. Now I don't have to waste gas. I was great as a kid but that was when boys were boys.

I just want to snag a true heros battleship for a good price. I might want to get that animal planet Cobra set too. Didn't see them at my local Tru over the weekend.

I hope folks are stocking up for Christmas with this sale. Are video games and consoles part of this liquidation as well?
