IESB photographer Rick Chavez ran in to Ray Park this past weekend and got to chat for a few minutes about his newly announced role as Snake Eyes in the upcoming G.I. Joe live action movie.
Rick wasn’t prepared for an actual interview and neither was Ray but here are a few bullet points about their conversation.
* Since he’s a martial arts expert, training is a regular part of his daily regiment
* Training for Snake Eyes involves various forms of martial arts including Wushu
* His Snake Eyes workout involves heavy sword training.
* Even though he is a life long fan of G.I. Joe, he has started doing plenty of additional research on the character including reading the comic books.

I never knew Mr. Park was into GI Joe. But I get surprises everyday.

oh my god, he is a doppelganger of my old boss in that pic, creepy. what a charmed life that guy leads, star wars, gijoe? that man will have 2 totally cool action figures of himself, nice resume. he can just walk into an interview and plop down those figs and say "will there be a toy line". i always thought that his role in sw was a bright spot in the series. i look forward to his part in the new movie. glad to see he's a fan!

For may of us SoCal users who was able to attend Frank & Sons (Collectible Wherehouse full of vendors with e-bay like prices) he was there this past weekend (Sat 11-4pm) taking pictures, signing autos, and answering some questions.
I was able to get 2 of my Snake Eyes 25th figures autographed by him and he really was a cool guy.
He mentioned that for his audition he had to wear some type of mask, as he was inspecting v1 snake eyes he said it was similar to that.
He already knows what his costume will be in the movie but wasn't able to comment on it.
They start filming this year.

Very nice score! I can't believe I missed that! I hope Park makes it to wondercon again this year. His part in the movie is the only thing that feels right to me so far.

Didn't he play in Xmen also as Toad?

This may sound sacreligious now that Ray has been chosen for the role of SE, but I always kind of pictured Viggo Mortensen in that role. Granted, SE will most likely have his face covered for 99.9% of the movie, but there's a certain physicality that I feel Viggo could have brought to the role- presence if you will- that I'm not sure Ray will pull off. Not trying to knock Ray honestly, but, well, there you have it.
That being said, I'm sure Ray will do a fine job. Looking forward to seeing the first trailer- I'm guessing at SDCC '08?
