While iPads, video games, and all things electronic seem to be all the rage with kids, toys based on iconic/retro brands are said to be making a come back. According to The Street, GI Joe is one of Hasbro‘s best sellers during this holiday season:
Toy makers and distributors have long been aware of what Hasbro(HAS_) refers to as the power of a “portfolio of iconic bands.” Among that company’s best-sellers were some very old and recognizable names: Nerf, G.I. Joe, Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony. The company has also benefited from the ever-popular line of Star Wars-related action figures and yet another wave of movie-fueled demand for Transformers.

Retro Toys and Games Making a Comeback - TheStreet
G.I. Joe is specifically mentioned in the article as being named one of Hasbro's best-selling brands this holiday season. Good news for us! Though Joe has had a reputation as being a "Holiday Seller" line for a few years now (which is largely the reason there tends to be a long hiatus in the middle of the year followed by a rush of product at the end), it's rarely been listed as being one of Hasbro's most successful brands in recent years.
Plus the overall trend of "retro" toys like action figures and board games doing well this season is good for the industry as a whole. I guess the video game hasn't quite killed us yet, even if high-tech items are still the most popular gifts.

I'd believe it. Even the Renegades are selling.

I'd agree with this. I went looking at WM for wave 4 and the pegs were almost empty, and those Thundercats toys were starting to drift over onto Joe's space.
Good news, though. Nice to see it sell so well, and not just to collectors.

The trailer may have been perfectly timed. As well as some sales at Target and TRU.

I have noticed that they seem to be going pretty fast, I even went to Target and only seen 2 Arctic Destros! They still haven't restocked though...

I was at Chik-Fil-a and saw a kid about 8 years old carrying a Renegades Duke figure. He was clutching on to it like it was his favorite toy. It was a cool thing to see. I think the toon had alot
to do with it.

That's awesome news!
I hope they never go away, same thing with SS statues and 1:6 figures.

From my perspective, the article mentioned GI Joe more to describe who Hasbro is, not that Joe's are selling.
Hopefully I'm wrong. Just my take.

I've seen several children directing their parents through the Renegades figures because they can't reach the pegs themselves. considering the fact that Targets got quite a bit of Renegades wave 2 figures not long ago and most around me barely have any left, I'd say there was a surprising amount of interest in the brand by kids.
