Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive Sixth Scale Destro Destro Sixth Scale FigureHailing from a long line of savvy war profiteers, we are proud to introduce the next adversary in our G.I. Joe Sixth Scale Collection, the Destro – Weapons Supplier Sixth Scale Figure! As a fascinating foil to the megalomaniac Cobra Commander, behind the beryllium steel mask lies a shrewd arms dealer who walks the line between evil-doer and man of integrity. Regardless of his true agenda, Destro aids the COBRA terrorist organization in many of its missions in world domination, with the lovely Baroness at his side.
We have outfitted Laird Destro in a hand-tailored costume, complete with vest and long jacket for warmth in the Scottish Highlands, and around his neck hangs the remarkable McCullen ruby medallion, a treasured family heirloom. The head of M.A.R.S. Industries comes aptly equipped with an array of deadly, technologically advanced gear and accessories, including COBRA weapon blueprints and a satellite location tracking device.
Always prepared for dangerous situations, Destro keeps a chrome pistol harnessed at his side, and a laser pistol concealed behind a secret panel in his communications case. His arm gauntlets house both miniature wrist rockets and hand grenades, signature examples of his cutting edge technology that pack enough punch to knock out a combat helicopter.
SIDESHOW EXCLUSIVE VERSIONThe Exclusive Destro Sixth Scale Figure will include an alternative swap-out head, for a more realistic interpretation of ‘the man in the iron mask’ (shown above left).
Both the Exclusive and regular versions of Destro are priced at $179.99, with payment plans available for as low as $60.00/month. Plan on adding Destro to your collection? Let us know by joining in on the discussion in progress after the break.

My Destro came in today. Hell yes! I really...REALLY love this figure. Very impressed by how Sideshow handled the character!
The vest doesn't open like you think it does..the zipper works but doesn't come apart. Pull open four velcro closures, slide it over his head and close 'em back up.
I'm SUPER impressed by the heads. Sideshow really knocked these out of the park. I'm glad they didn't go chrome as it would've drowned out the details in them.
The gauntlets are well detailed.
Hands. No left gripping hand. Such an utter shame!
Belt and belt pouches...made from a soft "pleather" material. I love them. Magnetic snaps close them which was a total surprise.
The main accessory...the briefcase. The shell is the same case from Sideshow's Firefly and it works really well.
Opening up reveals it's secrets.
And then further...
And FURTHER!
The panel on the top part of the case has quite a bit of detail, and even detail on the back implying that it is indeed meant to come off and act as a...pad of sorts!
The weapons. Destro has two...his classic laser pistol modernized, and a .50 AE Desert Eagle, with three magazines total.
The Desert Eagle is loaded with details. Functional slide, removable magazine, and it even has the bolt molded into it as well.
His gun hand can't hold the Desert Eagle in a manner I'm happy with. Such a shame he can't properly grip it. His laser pistol looks proper in the hand but he can't hold it too tightly. Blah.
You can recreate the card art too. Here's my poor attempt at it.
And that's about it. I can take more pictures at your request.
My Cobrastickers MARS labels came in...and I think this is pretty nice. Not a perfect solution but one I'm happy with myself.

Despite some questionable design choices, the finished product turned out pretty good. Sideshow's Destro probably would have been better received had the standard head sculpt been smooth (no sections/rivets) and with a more neutral or symmetrical expression. A close fitting jacket in place of the vest and a flesh tone muscle torso would also have appeased those wanting the option to style him after the original ARAH design. It's also a shame that no gripping left hand was included to hold his case.
A chrome head sculpt likely would have been a QC / replacement disaster waiting to happen.
So far, I think the figure looks best with the long coat and the Exclusive head sculpt.

Weren't we supposed to get an exclusive retro head? The holster and belt and ammo pouch are all crap vinyl. Overall the first figure from SS I have not liked, and yet the most anticipated.

Pictures taken. Will update first post after I take care of some things.
Some thoughts...the holster and pouches are made from the same "pleather" material that I've come to know and love from all my years in 1/6th modern military collecting. It's very soft though, unlike Baroness' straps, which is a good and bad thing. The closures are magnetic which was quite a surprise when I found out.
As for the head...I'm pretty glad they didn't chrome them. At least with the "modern" head there's some subtle detail to it that would have been lost with chrome. I say the same thing about Transformers toys...I abhor chrome. It was acceptable in the 80s but I don't think it really flies now...at least not for me.
The Retro head has some depth to it...you can see the human eyes in there and that is awesome.
Anyways I'll add more pictures and let the pictures speak. I love this Destro. I read about all the butthurt on Sideshow Freaks and although I understand, it's pretty ridiculous the lengths those guys go to trash this figure. **ALL** of the Sideshow figures have been modernizations, all with modern gear and equipment that the ARAH figures never had. I agree that it would've been nice that it could've been closer to the ARAH but the addition of the retro head, and the vest simulating the ARAH look is a great compromise in my book.
