Have you ever wanted to know what it cost to collect G.I. Joe A Real American Hero? Well HISSTANK.com has broken down a list on a per figure basis to own one of every G.I. Joe action figure over the 2015 time frame. This list includes the G.I. Joe Collectors Club figures, regular retail G.I. Joe Hasbro releases, SDCC Exclusives and what the current average of what you will be paying on eBay if you did not make it out to the convention, or grab sets from the club at cost. Although I think your going to need eye bleach after you see these numbers, this is in no way Hasbro or Club bashing. We just wanted to point out what a dedicated core group of collectors the G.I.Joe fandom really has. It’s amazing to see just how much money we will be spending on G.I. Joe in 2015. I hope retailers take note!
Since the first products to be released in 2015 were from the G.I. Joe Collectors Club and their line up is classic G.I. Joe A Real American Hero lets break down how just after 1 week from show date we have all spent on 24 figures in-hand, with one on the way that makes 25 with your subscription. We added the cost of you subscription into the box set since you need to be a G.I. Joe Club member to purchase exclusives at the show.
- Tiger Force Box Set $445.00 15 figure convention set and 1 G.I. Joe Club subscription figure shipping later in the year. Current 7 day running average on eBay $443.27
- Iron Anvil Officer Paratrooper $34.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $145.00
- IG Air Assault 2-pack $72.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $133.39
- Tiger Shark with Felino $83.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $128.80
- Tiger Sting with Sgt. Katzenbogen $83.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $166.88
- TF Helicopter Crew 3-pack $86.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $209.46
- Carded Dr. Mindbenber 32.00: Current 7 day running average on eBay $77.77
So to collect 25 G.I. Joe A Real American Hero action figures at cost it will run you $835.00 or $33.40 per figure! If you did not make it out to the convention and you purchased all 24 figures that were released at the show it would cost you an average of $1304.57 or $54.35 per figure and you still need to purchase a loose Dr. Mindbender after he ships out later in the year!
Next up it’s Hasbro’s turn. Lets break down just how much we will be spending at Toys R Us and SDCC 2015 to have a complete set of Modern Era G.I. Joe – 50th Anniversary Year Two figures. Hasbro has 36 G.I. Joe action figures set for release starting this summer at SDCC 2015.
- 5 TRU G.I. Joe 2-packs at $14.99
- 4 TRU G.I. Joe 3-packs at $19.99
- 1 TRU G.I. Joe Vehicle pack with 2 figures at 49.99
- 1 TRU G.I. Joe Vehicle pack with 4 figures at 59.99
- 1 SDCC EE-TRU Vehicle pack with 4 figures at 59.99
- 1 SDCC 2015 Hasbro Toy Shop Vehicle pack with 4 figures at 99.99
So to collect 36 G.I. Joe figures from Hasbro in 2015 it will cost you $424.87 or $11.80 per figure. If you add all of this up Hasbro and the G.I. Joe Club to this point it will run you $1259.87 for 61 G.I. Joe action figures at $20.65 per figure.
Now the spending does not stop here because we don’t have the cost on FSS 4.0 or anything else the G.I.Joe Club puts up for sale, but now you know you are forking over at least $20.65 to collect one of every G.I. Joe figure in 2015! When you look at the numbers broken down on a per figure basis, G.I. Joe Collectors are paying some of the highest costs per figure to be able to complete their collections, and continue to keep up with new Hasbro G.I. Joe product.
G.I. Joe Collectors Club 33.40 per figure. Hasbro TRU $11.80 per figure.

I love GI Joe, I have and always will. Hasbro's mismanagement has priced me out of it though and it makes me sad.

The Hasbro cost per figure is skewed since you're averaging the cost with vehicle sets. Kind of unfair. The Hasbro figs are 7.50 per figure in 2 packs and 6.66 in 3 packs. Its safe to assume the vehicle figures are in the same ball park.

No wonder I never have any money

I'm not a completist, but on average, I spend about a grand on joe per year. These numbers aren't too shocking, if you've been into collecting for awhile.

Now at the same time I know there are a lot of collectors out there who still love vehicles and I'm happy they also get what they want. Everybody has different wants and needs, vehicles are just not for me anymore.
I would also agree that as a child playing with G.I. Joe, having vehicles was NOT optional, and when you look at it that way, I am also glad Hasbro still does vehicles.

Funny this came out today. I was just this morning seriously thinking about scaling down my collection as I feel that right now I have accumulated too many ME figures, or at least too many versions of the same figure I should say. I'm currently thinking about boiling it down to the best representations of the 1982-1992 line up and that's it. Seeing this list is pushing me follow through. Thanks for posting.
