Back in July, HISSTANK sister site ToyArk reported that Hasbro is working on reviving several major franchises from the past. One of them being Action Man. Of course that franchise is arguably considered as the European equivalent of G. I. Joe of U.S, Asian Countries got to experience both shows and toys during the late 80s and 90s.
Now that the introduction is out of the way, Hasbro has confirmed their plans yesterday at the Brand Licensing Expo 2015 regarding the celebration of the Action Man brand; which is now 50 years old.
Licensing Mag has the info:
Hasbro is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Action Man brand with a new line of collector’s edition figurines created in partnership with Art + Science International.
Art + Science International in developing five retro figures that will be released in June 2016 to coincide with Father’s Day and Armed Forces Day.
The range will feature the classic British infantrymen–the skier, the parachutist, the scuba diver–and to specially remember 1966, the footballer. Each special edition figure will include accessories, gripping hands, the realistic “flock” hair and the character’s famous scar. Other famous features like Eagle Eye and Muscle Torso will appear in later releases.
Each new Action Man figure will be presented in a diorama scene with a 50th anniversary edition dog tag and illustratedAction Man manual with illustrations from the brand’s original artist, Douglas Hart.
“This unique range is being developed exclusively for the gift and collector’s market, and we hope that it triggers many fond memories of everyone’s childhood play, including my own,” says Peter Rooke, managing director, Art + Science International. “Through a series of themed releases starting in 2016, we hope to capture the very best of the Action Man brand.”

This sounds super cool, but words can be deceiving. Being as they didn't say 4in, one can only guess what these will look like.

these will be 12" and rehashes of the 40th anniversary stuff that DID/modelers loft produced but in more lavish/reimagined packaging. I bought the scuba diver set, ski trooper, frogman, deep sea diver ,desert S.A.S , normal S.A.S etc , they were retro packaged to look like they did in the 60's/70's.

I'm curious to see them too.

So will they be easily available in the UK, home of the plastic Man himself, or will we have to pay huge prices and import, in which case I'll just go on collecting 40th and Vintage to be honest.

So Hasbro is basically giving America the finger. This is ridiculous. GI Joe's 50th got NOTHING. That TRU crap didn't count. Those AREN'T REPRESENTING 50 YEARS. Those represent everything from the 80's. Hasbro is by far one of the most foolish companies I know at this point. They can cater to EVERYONE else but the 12" market. And NO, the club stuff doesn't count. It's overpriced and rarely released.
