Well folks, this is it. Confirming the rumors we heard last week, Paramount Pictures has officially stated that G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes principal photography has been postponed until this Fall from its original Spring schedule.
This statement came our way thanks to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura; who spoke to Slash Film regarding some of his upcoming movies.
When does Snake Eyes start?
We probably start late summer, early fall.
Are you going to be able to keep him silent as the star of a film?
[LAUGHS] I’m not going to spoil that one. I will say this. Part of the opportunity of going back is to discover who is this guy. For me, I’m most interested in seeing it as an origin story. If you see it as an origin story, you do get to see him speak for X period of time.
For me, my entry to The Matrix was the Hong Kong style martial arts which I was already watching in subtitled movies. I was excited to see that in an American movie and then those choreographers got to work in Hollywood for a few years.
It’s one of the reasons honestly why I wanted to do Snake Eyes so much was because I love Kung Fu. I love the moviemaking tradition that comes out of that. To me, it’s so much fun to try to get into that and then also try to figure out what is the new version of it? I’m a big believer in go do something. Yes, there’s a certain expectation of what you want from let’s call it a kung fu movie. It’s sort of a simple term but the truth is if we give you the version that you can visualize, we’ve probably given you something that you already know and therefore it’s kind of boring. So it becomes that balance. All right, how do you do new and appreciate and validate the old if you would? I find that one of the most interesting things about filmmaking. It’s something I learned over time that I think is really essential is really like okay, well, how do you? We could have really blown it with the ballsy choice with Ellie vs. Gage. But we went into it with the philosophy of the audience is very loyal to this. If we’re loyal to the spirit of the book and some large elements of the book, they’ll come with us. That was the theory. Could’ve been wrong, so I enjoy that part of it, the big roll of the dice.

Just stop trying to make a dang movie. Get a Live action Netflix series going or a dang animated Netflix series going . Evidently GI Joe movies are cursed.

Find a new director.
I don't think any of us are overly attached to him directing.
An unfortunate delay and it probably messes with Hasbro's timetable also.
A smart tactic would be to make the line, then store it in a warehouse until the movie is ready for release. Extra cost? Sure but the timing would be accurate and would avoid the situation retailers faced with Retaliation.

Paramount/Hasbro are likely not going to be happy at all about this, though the dude's biopic he wants to do is likely a very small and short project so the delay would be small probably if any. We haven't heard and casting news or such, so wonder if this delay was already known.
Hasbro/Paramount could probably ditch the director but that possibly means they would have to pay him something to break whatever contract he signed to direct.

Either way the possibility of an additional delay is never good.

Hearing this, I'm have decided that the only way I'll believe this movie is going to be made, is when I see it on the big screen.

Why not give the movie to Mark Cheng? He has deep familiarity with the source material, his oeuvre is in the genre, and he has Hama on speed dial.
Plus if they are filming in Asia his ethnic background will make it a smoother process overall.
Russel Mulcahy would be another good choice if he is still up for doing features.

They’re still making a “Joe” movie???

“This movie sucks, let’s postpone the release date to do 3D conversion. We’ll get more money from the overseas market with a 3D.”

I'v been a Joe fan from day one. But hasbro just wants everything to be Transformers. I'm sorry every one. But Come On. There's not going to be a new Joe movie. Hasbro has killed g.i. joe off. If hasbro cared about g.i. joe & it's fans we would be waiting for the 6th or 7 g.i. joe movie to come out we would All be talking about the new g.i. joe cartoon. WHY Am i the only one that see's it's ALL B.S. Hasbro wants every thing to be TF.

It's been awhile. The Joe brand is like that neighbor who has a classic trans am in his front yard on blocks. Ill believe it will get fixed when I see it drive down the road.
