Back in July (exactly a month ago actually), HISSTANK learned that another G.I. Joe live action movie is in development due to the production hiccups of G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes.
It just so happens that The Hollywood Reporter found out more info on the second project.
“The companies have Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as well as Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, writing a script for what is described as an ensemble piece.
One of the characters in the currently untitled project is said to be Chuckles, who has not appeared in the previous Joe movies. While he is not the center of the film, the project is in deep development and things could change.”
From the sound of things, the movie is based on the earlier rumored Chuckles movie. Therefore, HISSTANK was curious to find out more. From what we learned, the working title for the movie is G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant; the abandoned title of G.I. Joe 3. But, this may not be the final title of the movie; which is why the THR article mentions it as ‘untitled’.
It is indeed nice to have something to fall back on if there would be more delays on Snake Eyes side of things. Also, we would like to add another rumor which came our way. Much like Transformers: Studio Series, the next G.I. Joe toyline would simply be titled ‘G.I. Joe’ without any sub-titles such as ‘Snake Eyes’ or ‘Ever Vigilant’. If true, this general line would cater to any movie that would be out. But we are yet to confirm this rumor and you can check out HISSTANK for further development.

This is the first that I’ve seen of this, but apparently they’re planning a team movie in addition to the Snake Eyes solo film.
New "G.I. Joe" Film To Include Chuckles - Dark Horizons
I like the idea of having Chuckles in a movie written by the guys behind Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

This still makes me hopeful while at the same time I am highly skeptical. Time will tell. Hopefully GI Joe makes a healthy comeback.

So are these going to be in the same cannon as each other, or are there going to be different dimensions? Will there be time travel from one movie to the next?
Really, I'll believe that there will be a new GI Joe movie when it's actually in the theater. This just sounds like more of the same. "Wouldn't it be great if we made another GI Joe ..."

This Chuckles time travel rumor just keeps spreading, now even The Hollywood Reporter is giving it some credence.
I personally have no idea if it holds water or not.
I don't like the darker Chuckles story.
Some people do and that is ok but I am not fond of the idea.
I do feel that if they do pursue that story (and no one is saying they are) they need to get Gage and Costa involved. Gage already replied in a Twitter post.

Where are people getting time travel from?

Not going to happen. Hasbro has killed g.i. joe.

If I recall correctly, this is the exact reason why J.K. Rowling destroyed the Time Turners on 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'. She didn't want to look like a lazy writer. (And yet those who wrote The Cursed Child did exactly that and ruined her reputation within the fanbase).
Anyway, back to the point.
Then came along Avengers: Endgame. Since the general public thinks everything that Disney/Marvel put out is pure gold, and the fact that the industry now follows the mouse's footsteps to little effect, time-traveling as a plot convenience may become the new hip.
(which is why I think Infinity War > Endgame).
This Chuckles Time-Travel thingy came about from the abandoned G.I. Joe 3 script from the same writers assigned for this project. However, I do feel quite sad if they do. G.I. Joe is a concept that can do many things. M.A.S.S.Device, Weather Dominator plot devices... yeah, you got it. Time Traveling can stay as a last resort. But, have we come to the last resort?

I want to see Chris Evans as Chuckles.
