HISSTANK is currently chasing a new lead regarding a G.I. Joe Evergreen toyline by Hasbro.
Based on the information we uncovered, Hasbro has assembled several team members responsible for the recent Transformers Evergreen line to pursue a similar approach for the G.I. Joe franchise as well.
According to the info, the team is specialized to cater several demographics including Preschool, Kids, Collectors and Budget.
However, we do not have any images to show; which was not the case with Transformers Evergreen, where product packaging and toy listings were leaked to the internet by anonymous sources well ahead of official reveals. If luck will grace us, we will see the new toys sooner rather than later. It is best to keep in mind that nothing is set in stone. Plans can change and we may not even see the Evergreen line. But we’ll keep the negativity to the side.
Although the information we have is scarce at the moment, we can speculate what we can expect from this possible new toyline, based on the aforementioned Transformers Evergreen initiative.
You can check out our speculations, after the jump.
What is G.I. Joe Evergreen?
In order to understand what G.I. Joe Evergreen is, we need not look far. Hasbro’s own Transformers Evergreen initiative is a project to standardize character looks for the franchise. Although the line is largely inspired by G1, all characters were given modern updates which included vehicle modes (Bumblebee in particular is heavily influenced by Michael Bay movies).
The characters will not be tied down to a specific movie or a cartoon. This will be helpful to easily license the franchise and will be all year long, rather than seasonal.
Is G.I. Joe: War On Cobra, a part of the evergreen initiative?
Sadly, no. The game’s designs were finalized as far as early 2017 whereas the G.I. Joe Evergreen initiative began somewhere around late 2018. However, there is a likelihood that the upcoming mobile game may be incorporated into the evergreen line much like how the IDW Transformers comic book characters received evergreen treatment, halfway down the line.
What sort of toys will we see?
Based on the info we have at hand and based on our experience with the Transformers, Power Rangers and My Little Pony lines, we have deduced the following:
- Preschool: Simple figures and vehicles specifically for the Playskool Heroes line and the newly introduced Mega Mighties (Marvel, Transformers, Power Rangers, Star Wars etc.).
- Kids: Gimmicky figures and vehicles along with roleplay items.
- Collectors: Standard figures and vehicles with greater articulation and detail. We expect to see 3.75 as well as 6 inch lines this time.
- Budget: Simple figures but with lower plastic quality and packaging. Aimed at developing countries.
What sort of licensed products will we see?
Everything. From birthday cards to theme park mascots… possibilities are endless. With a G.I. Joe themed waterpark on the horizon, mascots and products will appear on location; much like the TF Evergreen Carnival Cruise.
When can we see the G.I. Joe Evergreen line?
To be honest, this question is more of an ‘IF’ rather than a ‘WHEN’. But, as we stated above, we would like to stay optimistic. Considering how such toys appeared for the Transformers, Power Rangers and Star Wars brands recently, we expect the new line to coincide with the G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes movie release. With New York Toy Fair and other international toy fairs around the corner, we may not need to wait much longer.
