Toronto Sun sat down with Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins titular character actor Henry Golding for a small interview regarding his past career and his future. The new movie was mentioned as it is a huge part of his life.
“This is an origin story” stated Mr. Golding. “It’s interesting because you have the long-time fans and they have a vision of Snake Eyes in their head, and that’s a character that they’ve loved for years and years. So, of course, we want to be able to do justice to them. But, at the same time, we want to bring something fresh to it as well. I think we’ve been able to create a balance within Robert Schwentke’s script that pays homage, but at the same time creates our own identity.”
Ever since his initial casting news for the movie, fans debated the origin story change for the character. It seems as though, Mr. Henry Golding is well aware of the arguments; which are going on even still to this day. Mad props to the actor for addressing the issue rather than Hollywood’s usual dissing of fans.

I'm curious just how balanced this "balance" really is.

I'm going to guess the US-based market was not in Hasbro/Paramount's mind when this movie was being developed.

As long as it’s not a line of BS, I appreciate Golding’s willingness to talk about this concern.

Well at the very least, this new Joe movie seems to have reinvigorated Hasbro's toy line.

Maybe they are going to blend the story so that Snake Eyes is a veteran of one of the modern wars that decides to stay in Japan after his enlistment is up.
