Speaking to the gathered audience at their annual screening event, Entertainment One declared their future plans to work hand-in-hand with Hasbro.
eOne’s president of global scripted programming, Pancho Mansfield stated that G.I. Joe, Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, Power Rangers and Action Man are already considered for TV or Film adaptations by the company.
“You know what has a following and then you try to find the right visionary. We’re meeting with all kinds of writers to make sure we have the right approach for whatever the piece is. There are some central brands (stated above) we will be focused on.”
Feature films such as a new ‘Transformers’ installment and ‘GI Joe’ movie, both with Paramount, are on the way, says Mansfield, although TV adaptations of Hasbro IP likely won’t air until 2021.
Noel Hedges, executive VP of acquisitions for eOne said “We will support Hasbro’s in-house IP and now find ways of bringing that to screen internally. Hasbro wants eOne to thrive, and from a distribution POV, they want us to be the portal through which we can take that content to the world. Even if it’s a kids brand, it could be integrated into a cross-generational family [offering]. Hasbro is a family business but there is a lot there that isn’t just in the kids space.”
News Post: Entertainment One To Produce TV And Movie Content Based On G.I. Joe
This sounds like really really great news.
D&D, eh? Interesting.
Wonder what this means for Paramount's future? Hasbro-Paramount agreement will expire by 2022, as well. Right time for eOne to kick in.
Well that is good news!!! Hopefully, it will take less than 5 years to get a show out there. Has it been 5 years since they initially announced that GI Joe 3 is coming? Or was it 6? I can't remember.
My wish will come true.
I hope they make a live-action show.
Good news indeed!
