Paramount Pictures has officially announced the updated release date for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.
Pushing back exactly a year from the current release date, the fans will get to experience the movie on October 22nd, 2021.
Matt Reeves’ Batman movie will release on the same month and Snake Eyes will battle for the box-office against Halloween Kills, The Last Duel as well as the third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie during the same time period. Sandwiched between two sure-fire comicbook movie hits, Snake Eyes’ boxoffice ticket sales will have a hard time not becoming a Halloween horror story.
Paramount’s updated slate:
- Untitled Billie Holiday – February 12, 2021
- Snake Eyes – October 22, 2021
- Clifford the Big Red Dog – November 5, 2021
- Scream – January 14, 2022
- Untitled Paranormal Activity – March 4, 2022

This seems like a terrible idea. It's gonna get buried against the competition.

last time a GI Joe movie got pushed back it killed the brand...

Hopefully they keep this line going strong until that movie drops. If they stop it, and try to reboot, I have a feeling it will be another complete shit show.

This Joe movie is going to be a boxoffice disaster.
Since the movie is done, my best opinion is to release it on VOD now. People are staying at home... hungry for any new movie. Just look at how Trolls 2 performed. That movie was nowhere near as good as the first one and yet people gobbled it all up and gave it a boxoffice record just because they had nothing else to watch.
Just imagine what Snake Eyes could have achieved on this year's Halloween VOD release. Kids staying at home with no trick-or-treating + a new, non-horror movie both the kids and parents can enjoy. Snake Eyes would have been a box office hit for the Halloween weekend.

Lame as absolute balls. I know that the movie companies out there are paranoid of streaming and how it'll murder the cinema industry so I guess that's why they're so hesitant of putting it up on VOD services... but c'mon. COME ON, man. Sn'eyes is gonna fail SO hard because of the slot it's put in.

Very disappointing news.

I’m not going to fuss too much yet. The pushback was inevitable, but I think there remains time to adjust. I think the biggest issue is that Hasbro really wants a coordinated marketing push...but as it stands, Snake Eyes is going to be overshadowed by two massive films with MUCH larger marketing budgets.
I still suspect dates will change. A quick look at the schedule shows a rather bloated fall slate (a result of the filming delays), but there’s a LOT of opportunity earlier in the fall (especially August at this point). At this point, it looks like Paramount is primarily looking at THEIR OWN slate, and not necessarily the state of the market. They probably just changed the date to clear it off the upcoming release schedule more than anything else at this point.
If nothing else, I’d hope that Hasbro might step in to push the film to an earlier date and avoid conflicting with Spider-Man (that Hasbro is also making toys for). Again, August or September would be strong contenders with a light schedule (at the moment) and being able to leverage the fall resets for stronger toy line support. If nothing else the film’s more modest budget might well offset weaker box office results, assuming it moves out of October between two MASSIVE tent pole releases.
