Actor Henry Golding sat down with NME for a brief chat on difficulties during the initial days of filming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and the future of the G.I. Joe Movie Franchise.
“Snake Eyes has just blown me away,” he said. “They’ve recreated G.I. Joe into something very cool and a far throw from what we’ve seen thus far on the big screen. I think there’s room for many spin-offs, to be honest. This, I think, will be the launch of a brand-new franchise.”
“To be honest, it was painful,” he admitted. “It’s definitely much more of a martial arts film than a superhero movie. It’s very, very physical. I fucking hated it in the beginning because I couldn’t even squat down and go to the bathroom. The first week was literal hell. I think I cried on the phone to my manager. I was like: ‘I don’t know what I’m doing!'”
In a separate interview with South China Morning Post, Mr. Golding also talked about Andrew Koji, who plays the role of Storm Shadow:
“He’s a phenomenal martial artist as well. So I was the one lacking in the skill department in the beginning,” says Golding. “They put me through the grinder for a month and a half, two months,” he says. “The pain was worthwhile in the end.” He takes a beat. “And the film’s unbelievable.”

That's great. Sounds like it's pure Joe Ninja, and no Reactive Iron man suit Joe.
I hope they show a trailer during his panel tomorrow.

I don't know that there's a market for GIJoe on the big screen, but as with everything, we shall see.

They've been saying for a while this is a martial arts film, which is great but will it sell? I love martial arts flicks but they seem to kinda be a dead genre in the US

This is going to be a great tribute to Snakeeyes. Henry Golding was not on my personal list to play SE, but it sounds like he threw himself into the part rather well. The cool part is that we will see other characters introduced. Im in the thought that will be close to the end. I pray this movie kills it and we can see other movies and cartoons in the near future. The gauntlet has been thrown down and a lot will be riding on this movie for a continuation of our beloved heroes and terrorists of GIJOE. The line of toys right now are rockin it hard and making many of us happy. IMO, let's enjoy the now and let the future take care of itself. A big YO JOE to everyone and have a kick ass day.
