Just for fun the new Cobra Island Viper is reuse of Duke from his crotch up to his neck including both the arms and hands. New legs new head. Gun is the same as duke and baroness. Holster is Duke's as well. New vest goggles neckerchief gauntlets backpack and rifle as well.
My story.
Arrive at the first Target around 6:45AM. Pop and Brick say this store has 6 Vipers. Guess I wasn't the only one to check, as there were 4 people in line.
Door opens at 7am, EVERYONE heads for the toys. I was the last man, so by the time I round the corner, guy #1 has 2 or 3, guy #2 has 2, and #3 is saying something to the effect of hey, let others get one. So first three people have some, #4 and I are left empty.
So I quickly check the rest of the toy section and make my way for the door. Dude #1 calls at me and says "hey, do you want one, *they are limiting them to one per person*." Of course I reply in the affirmative and get to self-checkout with everyone else. Dude #4 was also there, so I guess someone got one to him, too. Someone had the Target person price matching from the website ($5 less), so everyone did it, and while the employee was doing that, they picked up a second figure #2 had. So the 5 of us got one Viper each, don't know what happened to the 6th figure. Heard the first two guys as they were parting say something like "see you at the next store."
I decide I need/want a second, so I go to a far store I know is supposed to have 5.
Get there 30 minutes before opening (this location is at a mall, opens at 8am) and there are already 4 people lined up. I get over there, and low and behold, #3 is the same guy in front of me at the first store.
We're waiting and the first 3 people are talking because we were all there for the same thing. Find out #1 was there since *6:30AM*.
Outside door opens at 7:45 and we head for Target...and there's already one guy there! One of us asked how did he got in, he mutters something another door was open. One of us must have said something to scare him off, because 10 minutes later, he walks away and says to #2, go ahead I'm out! In the meantime, the line is getting longer and longer, with a couple people asking us why we were there or if we were in line for G.I.Joe. At least 3 other people indicate they are looking for the same thing.
An asian guy behind me asked in broken english if there was some new toy coming out, how many were in a case, how many Targets were getting them, etc. More about this guy later.
Store opens, we get to the G.I.Joe area and it's empty. Now by this time, we had all agreed to one each, and had almost made this a team effort. So #1 finds an employee and gives them the DPCI number. By this time the rest of us (4-5) gather around and the employee says "are you all here for the same thing? I hope we have them."
Dude #1 tells the employee we'll be at the electronics counter. We wait, chat about how hard this stuff is to find, and wait.
Finally, two employees come out with one case and say sorry, we only have 6. So, one by one we checked out right there and (thank God) I was able to get the case box.
As I leave I glance behind me and there's that asian guy lined up to buy something he knew nothing about 15 minutes before. I mentioned it to the first 3 guys when I saw them checking out the other toys (as was I). One of them said man, I would have bought 2 if I knew that. They also gave me props for thinking to get the case box.
So I get to start the year with TWO Vipers and my first case box for the line.
I also got to see first hand the DEMAND that Hasbro and Target absolutely spaced out on. Two stores had 6 each, BOTH were sold out in MINUTES. One store, the Vipers NEVER got near the toy section, never hit the pegs.

I really hope they course correct, get more out there. Pretty much all retail for Joe is gone quickly, I haven't seen any on pegs for more than a week, and the exclusives - none with exception of CI Roadblock, also gone soon after.
Glad the line is popular, but that part stinks. Here's to 2021 being an easier time for Joe collecting.
So I bought mine firefly at 9am pst in one of the bigger targets in the bay area in CA. Me and 4 other guys were waiting and were lucky that they hadn't finished stocking there new shipments. But one of the guys(most likely a scapular) was trying to be slick. He was trying to isolate the employee grabbing firefly from truck and was walking with her to the toy area. He seemed liked wanted the box although we were waiting and was willing to fight for it. SMH. The employee realized the was a queue and saw that drama was a brewing, was smart to pass out one to each of us there. Supposedly there was two vipers but then disappeared to the bermuda triangle.
You where gonna fight the guy in target for a piece of plastic and risk going to jail? Your dedicated man.
It would be cool if the helmet came off and had some black haired dude underneath with a jerk merc look on his face.
I never seen guys fight over gi joes but once at a late night release for star wars I did see two old guys almost get into it over hot wheels. I have heard of people taking them out of kids hands and woman's carts. Its crazy the things people will do for toys. I think we forget sometimes that these are toys nothing more nothing less.
To keep it on topic. I dont think any of the stores in my area got them. Firefly was listed online for a while but I got a error. Im not a big fan of the 6 inch to be honest but the viper looked ok. If I didnt keep him I was gonna trade him off for something else I wanted.
Saw this today. Not sure its a good sign or a bad sign but pegs are always empty anyway so...
