Cartoon comic:
YO JOE!"
The Hama comic assures us it has "high stakes" but the description sounds like one of the most boring plots ever to curse the pages of his comic, and it basically warns us it'll be full of his now-usual problems with too much exposition and setup that never actually goes anywhere. Additionally, to try to drum up excitement, it adds that there'll be lots of characters, and we all know how that goes: Cameos in large group scenes and at least one accidental resurrection. I mean, I hope it's good, but that synopsis sounds like the worst of modern Hama in just a few sentences.
The cartoon comic, meanwhile, throws in a plot that imperils three major cities with a fun, goofy threat that is pitch-perfect for the tongue-in-cheek tone of the show. The synopsis also suggests that there's more going on than just what it tells you, and that the Joes may struggle to stop it. Even the title sounds like it could come from one of the mini-series. This comic could still be absolutely terrible, but so far they are hitting all the right notes.
In the end, I hope they're both good. But right now, I know which one I'd rather read.
