“We’re not just trying to make a good game – we’re trying to make the most exciting and fully realized embodiment of G.I. Joe that the world has ever seen!”
Atomic Arcade has posted an interview with their Senior Narrative Designer, Brandon Jerwa, for their upcoming game G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes.
“There was a story in place when I got here; it’s evolved in many ways, but it was a strong foundation to start with.
When Ames (GI Joe Snake Eyes Creative Director) explained it the first time, I thought he was pranking me. There were more than a few ideas and characters that came from my writing in the comics! It was really validating and a very pleasant surprise, because I wasn’t expecting that at all.
But what I really loved was how they imagined a version of G.I. Joe that embraces so many different aspects of the brand. Not just my stuff, not just one particular comic or movie or cartoon – EVERYTHING is fair game for inspiration!
I think the fans who really know the franchise are going to be shocked when they see all the toys we’re playing with here…but don’t worry, they’ll still be the characters that you know and love.”
Brandon Jerwa is an American comic book writer and musician residing in Seattle, Washington. Mr. Jerwa’s comic book career began in 2003, when he submitted a script to Devil’s Due Publishing that was accepted, and was eventually published in G.I. Joe: Frontline #11–14. Soon afterward, he became the main writer of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and also wrote several G.I. Joe miniseries.

News Post: Brandon Jerwa Talks About G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes AAA Video Game
I hope this video game is insane. This is exactly what G.I. Joe needs right now. Hopefully it's FPS and has online multiplayer. G.I. Joe vs. Cobra online just like Star Wars Battlefront!
You can play one player with a squad of 4 teammates that you control. Or play online with up to three other players. Anybody can go anywhere on the map. You're not locked/rubber band to other teammates positions.
I don't know how much creative control Jerwa has, but he was one of the better writers ARAH ever had.
He did write a script for DDP which got him hired, it was his ticket into a long career of writing licensed comics. He actually wrote the script on the job of his old career using company letterhead paper, and was fired for misuse of company assets.
So all around a brilliant launching-pad decision. The man was supposed to be writing professionally.
With the articles and press that’s been released from Atomic Arcade, it sounds like this is shaping up to be great, not just for Joe fans but also possibly creating new fans. Also, since Brandon Jerwa is working on it, I wonder if he’ll take some inspiration from his Snake Eyes Declassified Miniseries if Snake’s background is explored or referenced in some way in the game.
