Renegade Game Studios Unveils Transformers Robo Rally and a G.I. JOE Game Powered by the Axis & Allies Game Engine!
“Renegade presents two new games with a fusion of classic gameplay and iconic characters!”
San Diego, CA – August 4, 2023 – Renegade Game Studios is thrilled to announce G.I. JOE: Battle for the Arctic Circle, which will be powered by the Axis & Allies gameplay engine, under license by toy and game company Hasbro. This match made in heaven will allow fans to play as the G.I. JOE or Cobra in a fight for control of the Arctic Circle.
The game will feature over 110 figures, including: the Snow Cat, W.O.L.F., Skystriker, and Rattler. The game will also introduce new strategic options that commanders may employ, such as using the Weather Dominator to freeze the sea to block pathways or create strategic land bridges. Players can expect to deploy troops in 2024.
“G.I. JOE was the perfect fit for our new line of games powered by Axis & Allies. Now fans of wargames and the world’s ultimate fighting force can come together for an epic experience.” Said Scott Gaeta president and publisher at Renegade Game Studios.
Renegade Game Studios has also announced a new addition to their Robo Rally line-up, and there’s a bit … More Than Meets The Eye to this one. Coming in 2024, Renegade will release the Transformers Robo Rally game, featuring classic Robo Rally gameplay mixed with iconic Transformers characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron.
Players will be able to choose between six different Transformers robots, each with their own personal upgrades that give them unique advantages and identities. Players will convert between bot and alt (or vehicle) modes, to better navigate the many roads, buildings and obstacles that make up each race. The game will also feature four completely new double-sided game boards, representing the city and desert landscapes of Velocitron.
“What a perfect fit! We knew we wanted to do a Transformers racing game and the stars aligned with Robo Rally! Now Transformers fans can compete on Velocitron in a game fueled by Richard Garfield’s original Robo Rally design with additional design by the Renegade R&D team.” Said Scott Gaeta, president and publisher at Renegade Game Studios.
“We are eager to bring fans new expressions of Axis & Allies and Robo Rally through the storytelling lens of two of our iconic brands – G.I. JOE and Transformers,” said Bradley Bowman, Senior Licensing Director of Global Toy and Game at Hasbro. “Through Renegade’s imaginative mashups with our classic tabletop strategy games, we are truly celebrating the spirit of action and adventure that our brands represent.”

Renegade has been doing great with the GI Joe license and all the expansions for it's games. Axis and Allies is a perfect fit for GI Joe also.
Now I just need a video game studio to look at this and use it for the basis for a GI Joe RTS.
I've been dreaming about that since I first played Command and Conquer Red Alert in the late 90s. IT'S SUCH A PERFECT FIT.
(Mind you, I also want a Nintendo RTS featuring the Koopas vs Space Pirates vs Ganon's forces. I want more fun RTSes, dammit. Also, GI Joe as TeamFortress is an even more perfect fit and no one's done that, either....)
I hope the Joes also get Polar Battle Bears from 1983, and Avalanche snow tanks from 1990.
Cobras could get Arctic HISS tanks and SNAKE Armor.
Hoping for Snow Serpents.
I am a board game fan. I love games like Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan and Hero Quest. I tried very hard to play Axis & Allies when it first came out but I was too young to grasp it.
Then years later in my 20's I tried again. I tried to play with a friend who also liked board games. We still struggled to truly grok the game, to fully feel comfortable playing it and enjoy it rather than have it be a chore.
I hope the G.I. Joe version is colorful, fun, has lovely thematic "Industrial Production" paper money and is - I don't want to say "simplified" because I don't want it too dumbed down, but I frankly may be too dumb or inattentive for full fledged Axis & Allies.
I'm hoping for Zarana & Zandar. A pair. Twins. Together.
If this is what I think it is, we got Zartan, and Zarana and Road Pig instead.
...
I agree that this should be trimmed down to a 40-90 minute game. Not longer. And I am fine with a simplified production system, where you just get X cost worth of units per turn. This is not a multi-year campaign.
I've been dreaming about that since I first played Command and Conquer Red Alert in the late 90s. IT'S SUCH A PERFECT FIT.

On another topic, sounds like this one is a video game instead of an actual board game. Says uses the “engine” of some other game which is video game talk right? Anybody know different?
"Engine" can also apply to a board game as well. For instance, there are several games using the Pandemic board game engine.
I wonder which version of the A&A game engine they will use.
It sounds like the map board will focus on the Arctic circle, though something like A&A Global would very cool.
