Hasbro’s CFO & COO Gina Goetter sat down at this year’s J.P Morgan Global Technology, Media, and Communications Conference to explain their future plans on digital space.
Hasbro talked a little bit about their upcoming AAA game with Saber Interactive. However, the actual IP in question has not yet been revealed:
“[Hasbro] also in February announced a partnership with Saber Interactive, where it is a co-development. So we’re coming to the table, they’re coming to the table. We’re co-investing in the development of a new game.”
Regarding other digital games:
“And then we have the complete opposite end of the spectrum where we are 100% building, supporting, publishing, investing on our own video games. It’s a different investment, and it’s a different return profile. And so we believe that the diversity of how we’re approaching gaming is a smart way to lean into some areas of opportunity without putting too much risk on the table. Again, anchoring back to playing to win.”
Regarding John Hight’s appointment as the President of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming:
“John Hight has come into the organization and has really taken a very thoughtful view of not only the current pipeline within all of gaming, but what are the opportunities that he sees that we can step into over the next few years and you know, video games and anything on gaming is longer, it’s not an immediate. It comes true in the next year. So we have continued to try to keep those two worlds and the decisions associated with those two worlds separate, but it is not lost at all on Chris, myself, and the executive team that we need to keep creating the capacity for the Wizards [of the Coast] to grow.”
News Post: More Info On G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes AAA Video Game
It's stealth mixed with sword mechanics, it could be good...if it is it might help Joe get into the mainstream
It will absolutely tank.
"the edgier and more mature take on the G.I. Joe Universe"
I cant roll my eyes back any further and Im once sentence in.
?On the video game front, the team and I look to modern military/paramilitary based game franchises that have made a lasting impression on our team as well as core and mass gamers. Such as the Metal Gear Solid franchise, The Call Of Duty Modern Warfare and Ghosts titles, and the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon and The Division games, to name just a few. Additionally, we are also inspired by recent sword focused, melee combat games such as Sekiro, Ghost Of Tsushima and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.?
So they are wanting to do a Souls-like with Snake Eyes. Thats what Im getting.
"if you strip away all of the G.I. Joe IP specific elements, at his core Snake Eyes is half deadly Ninja and half elite Spec Ops Military Commando. We believe the combination of those abilities and associated tools that Snake has in his tool chest make for a very compelling and unique video game protagonist for anyone who enjoys AAA action/adventure games.”
How does that sound unique? It sounds like if Snake and Raiden fused.
I don't see how such a game can set itself apart from every other game that is basically the same thing. Especially with Snake-Eyes as the lead.
As long as snake eyes isnt race swapped ill give the game a shot. I enjoyed operation blackout so i might like this.
I love Snake Eyes, I do. But while he has plenty of advantages from a gameplay perspective, he’s dull as fricking ditchwater as protagonists go. Never speaks, just stand there and nod, no family, less than a half dozen pals.
Hell, let’s be honest here: all the cool characters that would be fun to play are with Cobra. Storm Shadow, Firefly, Zartan, Zarana, the Dreadnoks. A host of conflicting viewpoints, abilities and motivations, and able to express them.
Operation Blackout had it right in letting you play different characters from both sides. The gameplay was just extremely dull.
