Collecting the Art of G.I.Joe: Omnibus Hardcover Kickstarter Launch

Posted on January 22, 2022 at 12:02 pm by DESTRO under Compatible Military Toys, G.I. Joe Comics, G.I. Joe Vintage

Yo Joe fans! This is Carson from 3DJoes.com. Nearly four years ago we completed the mission of Collecting the Art of G.I.Joe by collecting, documenting, restoring, and compiling every retail piece of painted art created for the G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero toy line, which spanned from 1982 to 1994.

This 460 page set covered everything from figures, vehicles, and playsets, to book and magazine covers, posters, and even obscure peripheral items like dinner trays, trash cans, and soap dispensers.

Thanks to the help of 420 Kickstarter backers just like you, we created 1,000 sets — and in less than two years, we sold out!

This book series helps fund 3DJoes.com, and we’ve been out of print for two years. We want this work to be accessible, but we wouldn’t be content just reprinting what we’ve already created.

To that end, and with your help, we are going to create a Collecting the Art of G.I.Joe Omnibus Hardcover edition that is bigger and better in every way. Here’s how:

First: bigger: the original softcover books are 8×11” tall, and the slipcase is 8.5×11.5” tall. The new Omnibus Hardcover will be 12.5” x 13”.

Next: better! This hardcover won’t just be taller and wider, it will be packed with new and remastered content! The original set was 460 pages. The new omnibus hardcover will start at 480 pages, and we are going to stretch for 80 additional double gatefold spreads, bringing the total page count up to a mammoth 640 pages.

Posted on January 20, 2022 at 9:43 pm by DESTRO under G.I. Joe Comics

Back in November of 2021 we first learned the rumors of IDW’s demise and today brings us official confirmation via The Hollywood Reporter.

“At the end of 2022, IDW will bid a fond farewell to the publication of G.I. Joe and Transformers comic books and graphic novels,” the company said in a statement provided to THR. IDW is planning a blowout celebration later with milestone issue, G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero no. 300 with Larry Hama, the veteran comics writer who launched the Joe brand with Marvel Comics in 1982, at the helm.”

Skybound Entertainment In Talks To Acquire G.I. Joe And Transformers Comic Book Publishing Rights

Posted on December 11, 2021 at 6:00 am by Silver Optimus under G.I. Joe Comics

Robert Kirkman-led Skybound Entertainment (commonly known as just ‘Skybound’) is reportedly in talks to acquire comic book publishing rights of G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises.

This news comes amidst rumors of the current license coming to an expiry. IDW is rumored to lose the license awarded to them by Hasbro.

The Hollywood Reporter says:

Skybound, the imprint run by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, is in negotiations with Hasbro to acquire the publishing license to the two properties. If a deal is reached, it will mark a sea change for the look and feel of the comics and is a big loss for IDW, which has been making G.I. Joe and Transformer comics since the mid-2000s. Kirkman, who is known to be a major fan of the toy brands and is said to have personally gotten involved in the chasing of the rights, is not expected to write any of the new comics. Additionally, if a deal does go through, new books would not be expected to hit shelves until 2023.

Skybound is mostly known for The Walking Dead and the Fire Power comic book series.

Rumor: IDW To Lose G.I. Joe License In 2022

Posted on November 29, 2021 at 6:47 pm by DESTRO under G.I. Joe Comics

Coming to us by way of Bleeding Cool is an unexpected rumor about the future of IDW’s G.I. Joe license.

The site – which was recently correct in reporting IDW’s loss of some Marvel and Star Wars lines earlier this year – now reports that word had broken at SDCC 2021 that IDW will be losing the license of not only Transformers, but also GI Joe too:

“Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2021: Special Edition, there was plenty to talk about the state of the comic book industry as it stands, as well as the many moves that have been happening of late and will be happening in the very near future. And as big publishers chose not to attend the show, it meant that there was much less management of the information that flowed. One such nugget was the news that IDW Publishing, based just up the road in San Diego, is to lose their licence to produce comic books based on the Transformers franchise from Hasbro.

Back in August, Bleeding Cool broke the news on IDW losing the Marvel Action kids line of titles, which IDW then confirmed, and the Star Wars All-Ages line – which IDW did not reply to, but that Dark Horse Comics claimed last month.

IDW did not respond to inquiries made earlier today, on this, or a number of related stories. If true, there is also no date as to when this may occur but on current form, I would expect in the summer of 2022.”

Again, we stress that this should be taken as a rumor until official word is received. But until then, you can sound off with your thoughts on the boards.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero — Saturday Morning Adventures Comic Book

Posted on November 18, 2021 at 6:49 pm by DESTRO under G.I. Joe Comics

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero — Saturday Morning Adventures Comic Book Recaptures the Frolicking Fun of ’80s Cartoons

Revisit the Beloved G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Animated Series
with Four-Issue Miniseries from IDW Publishing, Beginning February

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 18, 2021) – With the nostalgic appetite for ’80s pop culture as powerful as ever, IDW is giving fans what they want with the February debut of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero—Saturday Morning Adventures, a special send-up of the classic cartoon, shipping monthly and featuring the fan-favorite creative team of writer Erik Burnham, artist Dan Schoening, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado.

Everyone knows that G.I. JOE is the code name for America’s daring, highly trained special mission force, and that their purpose is to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless criminal organization determined to rule the world. But now, Cobra has launched the Aladdin Initiative, their most versatile weapon yet… challenging Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, and the G.I. JOE team like never before!

“I loved how straight-up weird cartoons can be,” says Burnham. “The G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero cartoon allowed for gremlins, Egyptian gods, and of course, a ninja dressed in an 80’s New Wave outfit, wig and all. You never knew where the show might take you. Writing a story set in that universe, you can do anything… and I’m partnered with artists like Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado, who can draw anything. The idea we came to felt right at home within the world of the cartoon, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
