What a year 2021 has been for the G.I. Joe brand. I don’t think anybody could have predicted the absolute explosion in product that is on the way. The variety in style, brand, size class, price point, and overall selection leaves something for everybody to look forward to. We are now in a full resurgence of the G.I. Joe brand with the G.I. Joe Classified Series anchoring the action figures at mass retail and the Snake Eyes G.I. Joe Origins movie leading the mass marketing push into the mainstream. None of this would have been possible without change.

So where do we go from here? I guess we should start with the last two months of feast or famine that just took place, and in some cases is still ongoing. We went from no G.I. Joe Classified or Retro products to how many do you need – take your fill. The Target Cobra Island situation started out on a really bad note and looked like it was going to be a disaster only to find out it was a temporary tech glitch that lead to the flood gates opening. People went from no Cobra Troopers to having the ability to Army build (very important for some of us) and most people just wanted to fill the holes in the numbered line up with The Baroness, Beachhead, Roadblock and Firefly. This led to a full on scramble to obtain the early first waves for those who stayed on the sidelines waiting to see how the line developed. But wait there’s more! The addition of Alpha Snake Eyes and that incredible articulated Timber, color changing Zartan, ARAH Amazon Roadblock and Breaker with RAM Cycle to name a few and if the rumors floating around about what awaits us in 2022 are even halfway true Classified and Retro fans are going to have a banner year. So, start saving your money now.

One last thing before we get started with the Snake Eyes movie. As G.I. Joe action figure collectors, we need to understand and manage our expectations for the ability of Hasbro (and it’s not just them) to get product to market with the ongoing Covid-19 (and now Delta) situation. Things are starting to open back up and return to normal but the very real cascading problems that were set into motion are far from over. There are massive shipping delays, massive inflation in shipping pricing, shortages of shipping containers and longshoreman who are under contract to be out to sea a maximum of 11 months, are now going on an average of 16 months, with no breaks out to sea, and no end in sight. So, unless Hasbro has been able to somehow shield themselves from these continuing effects, expect and uneven flow of action figure spice moving forward. Feast or famine conditions are going to be the new normal until the world fully recovers.

I guess this is where we dive into the Snake Eyes movie. So much to unpack here. Firstly, go see the movie for yourself. Nobody online spouting off their opinion is going to be 100% correct including myself. The matrix cannot tell you who you are as a G.I. Joe fan and the Snake Eyes movie is full of conflict for the seasoned fan. I almost feel the people walking into this for the first time are going to have the most fun watching it. No predetermined expectations, engrained happy childhood experiences, and for some of us almost 40+ years of collecting and absorbing G.I. Joe lore.

The early reviews started coming in on Wednesday and I was disappointed to see the tone and overall negative framework some of the so called “lifelong Hollywood G.I. Joe fans” took when speaking of the direction of the film. The very narrow perspective from Hollywood critics that nobody who is an OG fan of G.I. Joe is going to like this is just not justified. Just because the Snake Eyes movie is not a direct telling of Comic book lore is not a true measure of how good or bad this film is. Make no mistake this movie is 100% a reboot of the Arashikage and the relationship between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. The people walking in to see Snake Eyes who are not the core fan base are not going to care. They just want to see a good action – martial arts movie about ninjas and on that note it delivers. It also introduces Cobra and G.I. Joe to a new generation while the focus is on character development (Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes), something that was severely lacking in the first two attempts.

From the Florida Everglades to the New Jersey Pine Barrens the Dreadnoks have a huge role in both Comic and cartoon G.I. Joe lore. Given the popularity and versatile way the Dreadnoks are used in G.I. Joe lore we wanted them to get their very own Most Wanted set of polls. Much like we have done in the past for our Modern Era March Madness events, we will be holding our very own Wanted Dead or Alive Dreadnoks Rumble!

We hope this event helps highlight the popularity of this team of misfits and also gives the Hasbro G.I. Joe Team valuable intel on what figures we would prefer to see in the G.I. Joe Classified series future releases. It was very hard to get this list down to the Bitter 16. Lots of debate took place to make sure the core characters were represented (since the line is so new) and to have some new potential ideas for Hasbro to chew on.

We hope you join us and sound off about potential vehicles like a Classified Dreadnok Thunder Machine (one can dream) to the more down to earth individual Motorcycles like they did with the The Baroness (and Punisher) in past Hasbro Deluxe releases. The debate is wide open! What Dreadnok will be King of the Hill and be crowned the Most Wanted – That’s up to you to decide!

Girls of the Finest 2018 Calendar Helping Vets Get A New Leash On Life!

For our 2018 Girls of the Finest calendar, we are proud to partner with a charity that helps rescue canines from high-kill shelters to become service animals for Veterans with PTSD and other injuries.

HAPPY 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO THE FINEST!

So, it’s our 10 year anniversary!! Do not attempt to adjust your screens–we have taken over the airwaves and we’re gonna kick it up a notch this year!!

The Finest: A G.I. Joe Costume Club is thrilled to again partner with K9s for Warriors for the FOURTH annual Girls of the Finest charity calendar! Over the last three years we have been able to donate more and more money to the various charities we’ve partnered with, and in doing so we’ve showed the world just how powerful the G.I. Joe fan community is when it comes to charities for veteran and military-related organizations.

YOU KNOW THE DEAL (and if you don’t, here it is):

The Girls of the Finest Charity Calendar is no ordinary 12-month calendar! Our amazing members are photographed exclusively for this calendar, while portraying many of your favorite G.I. Joe and Cobra characters!

In our charity efforts, we always strive to engage charity organizations that would help assist service men and women after they return home in an impactful way, as many Finest members are active duty service members and veterans. Once again, it’s the Finest’s honor to partner with K9s For Warriors, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing service canines to warriors suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post 9/11.

Their goal is to empower veterans to return to civilian life with dignity and independence. Ninety-five percent of the canines in the K9s For Warriors’ program come from rescue shelters, and in 2015, the organization was able to raise more than $5.5 million dollars, which allowed them to pair 51 Warriors with service dogs – that’s at least 102 lives saved because of each person’s contribution! In September 2016, K9s for Warriors opened their second kennel, which houses up to 27 dogs in training; the 17,000 sq. ft. training facility now can house and train up to 54 dogs! In May 2017, they trained and graduated their 300th warrior! They’re also diligently pushing the PAWS Act (Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers), which would authorize a five-year, $10 million pilot program to provide trained canines to veterans with Post-traumatic Stress Disability. We decided we wanted to help them reach their goal of helping 12 warriors each month, so ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the net proceeds earned from the 2017 Girls of the Finest calendar will be donated to K9s for Warriors!
