G.I. Joe, Transformers And MASK Unite In Massive First Strike Cover

Posted on May 30, 2017 at 1:26 pm by C.I.A.D. under G.I. Joe Comics

Thanks to CBR.com, we have a very impressive line-art of the next a IDW Crossover title: First Strike.

Veteran comics artist and Image Comics co-founder Whilce Portacio illustrated a triptych cover that will be published as retailer incentive covers for issues #1, #3 and #5 of First Strike.

The covers will be available to retailers who order 50 copies or more of each First Strike #1 and #2 (both scheduled for release in August). First Strike #1 is scheduled for release on Aug. 9, and will run for six issues in a twice-monthly shipping schedule.

The First Strike story picks up with Earth about to join the Cybertronian Council of Worlds. That seemingly peaceful event is interrupted by Cobra, as Baron Ironblood — historically the British counterpart to Cobra Commander — has targeted all Cybertronians for termination, clearly putting the Transformers in serious jeopardy. The G.I. Joes, led by Scarlett, and the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, stand in the way in the face of extinction — enlisting help along the way from, apparently, an unlikely ally in the form of Soundwave of the Decepticons.

“One man attempts to dominate, one woman stands against him,” Mairghread Scott said in a statement to CBR. “Watch as Scarlett leads her G.I. Joes on a daring mission to save all of Cybertron from their gravest threat yet. First Strike is a fast-paced, hard-hitting, and deeply personal character story set against the backdrop of intergalactic war with all the giant robots, cyborg ninjas, and massive explosions you could ask for.”

IDW Summer Crossover Event – First Strike

Posted on May 23, 2017 at 7:25 pm by C.I.A.D. under G.I. Joe Comics

By way of blastr comes a sneak peek at IDW’s summer crossover event, First Strike. The sneak peek includes an assortment of variant covers for issues #1 & #2.

Here’s the synopsis for First Strike #1:

A Hasbro comic book event! A new era of peace is dawning as Earth formally joins the Cybertronian Council of Worlds. That is… until Baron Ironblood joins Destro, Storm Shadow and other nefarious villains in a terrorist attack on Iacon! As chaos takes hold on Cybertron, it will be left to Scarlett and the rest of G.I. Joe on Earth to discover the true purpose behind the attack before both worlds descend into all-out-war!

Here’s the synopsis for First Strike #2:

The crossover of the year continues! Scarlett learns the truth behind Baron Ironblood’s plan to destroy all life on Cybertron, but with her team stranded on Earth, she must turn to an unlikely ally to help her reach the besieged planet. Enter: Soundwave!

From the article –

“In ‘Revolution,’ we united our Hasbro comic book titles into one shared universe,” said IDW Editor-in-Chief David Hedgehog. “In ‘First Strike,’ we see what it’s like to live in the shadows of a massively powerful, ancient, alien race that has been warring with itself for millions of years and, in doing so, has brought death and destruction to every planet it has touched.”

We’ve mirrored the covers here for your viewing pleasure. What are your thoughts on this upcoming event? Planning on picking them up, or are you skipping First Strike all together? Sound off after the break!

Transformers VS G.I. Joe: The Annual Subscription and Incentive Covers

Posted on February 18, 2017 at 2:48 pm by C.I.A.D. under G.I. Joe Comics

Care of Previews World and artist Hal Laren, we have some images of a couple of the variant covers for the upcoming Transformers VS G.I. Joe annual. The annual is the comic adaptation of a hypothetical movie version of the 13 issue comic series, so expect it to partly retell and partly reimagine the crazy events of the most unique of Transformers and G.I. Joe fiction.

The subscription cover, which was posted over at Previews World, runs with the whole “movie adaptation” idea with a cover that resembles the style of a movie poster, featuring many of the main characters presented in a striking style. The exclusive cover by Hal Laren, on the other hand, is an AOD Collectables exclusive currently up for preorder. This cover features a sharp and dynamic presentation of Autobot Jazz.

Check out the art of both covers after the break.
