ws_toys has put a clarification up on the auction for the figure formerly identified as Hawk from the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra toy line. Now the figure formerly known as Hawk is labeled Sgt. Stone. Could this possibly be a nod to Lt. Stone from Sigma 6?

I think we were all wondering what the heck was up with the single pack "General Hawk" auction that looked nothing like Dennis Quaid (or like the Hawk that comes with The Pit).
Well, the auction has been relisted, only the figure is being called "Sgt. Stone"! New character? Homage to Flint or Lt. Stone? Something else entirely?

Weird. Guess we'll have to wait for official word from Hasbro.

I guess he's a new character for the movie. He wasn't mentioned in the script. I would guess a character would at least have to speak in the movie to get a figure, so maybe the script has changed a good bit.
Maybe this is Brendon Frasier's character? Doesn't really look like him, but he said he's playing a sergeant.
Good to know he's not Hawk, but that means the only way to get Hawk right now is with the Pit.

I was really hoping this was a look at "movie Flint" or "movie Falcon." ah well. Wait and see, I s'pose.

All kinds of possibilities here:
1. He's a bit player in the movie. Maybe not even named or having any lines. It's the "Star Wars Cantina" effect where a nameless background character is given an action figure.
2. He's a "nod" to Lt. Stone (maybe he just hasn't gotten his commission yet?)
3. He's a "new character" not in the movie (See "Deep Six" for an example of a character not appearing in the movie but still getting a figure...as well as the various vehicle drivers).
4. GRATUITOUS (AND JOKING) CONSPIRACY THEORY: He's Sgt. Stone in the movie, and in a few years he'll get promoted to Lt. Stone and Hasbro will launch the "G.I. Joe EXTREME" Movie! Just like "Extreme" was supposedly the future of RAH, it will now be the future of "Movie-RAH" too! (Hasbro/Paramount if you actually do this I want my cut up front).
I kind of doubted this would ever be "Movie Flint" or "Movie Falcon" simply because those are characters that have a good chance of getting "official" movie versions in the sequel(s). (Particularly Flint).
Ironically though, if this were "Movie Flint" I'd really dig the design....Though I like it well enough as a new character, too.

All I can think of with the movie figures is how much custom fodder there is going to be. I may actually put some products on the back burner until figures like this are on the pegs...

Since RnR's original file name was McConnel not O'Connel, who knows if it's true. But I could see them changing the name slightly to accomodate this.
