If G.I. Joe Movie Prequel #4 left you wanting to see more of Snake Eyes past, this new series is for you! G.I. Joe Snake Eyes #1 kicks off a mini series written with input by Ray Park, the star who played Snake Eyes onscreen in G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra. A mysterious killer stalks the streets of Japan. Snake Eyes goes undercover, on a clandestine operation that only Hawk knows about. Everything starts hitting closer to home as the killings are near Snake Eyes' old home turf.....
The 1st thing that struck me was how clear the artwork was in this issue. High clarity is something oft ignored in comics today and thankfully this issue is extremely easy to follow. The artwork is bold and vibrant, and the flashback scenes are excellent. The flashback scenes tie into the rest of the issue seamlessly. They use hand drawn panels, with a softer look, with colors reminiscent of watercolor paintings, and using a warm hue. Storm Shadow makes a brief appearance in these flashbacks, and hopefully we see more of him in the next issues. He was completely absent from the movie prequel books.
The issue moves at a fast pace as Snake Eyes travels to Japan and reaches his former training grounds. Some of the characters introduced look familiar, there is an old shopkeeper who looks like the Soft Master. Whether it's him or not remains to be seen, but he looks exactly like him.
Speaking of familiar faces, as Snake Eyes goes into action he finds an unexpected surprise...
To me, this issue gives us what the last Movie Prequel issue should have given us; more insight into Snake Eyes' past. It seems that this series will give us what we wanted all along. The worst thing I saw Snake Eyes do...is talk. Well he whispered but that's still something that will anger longtime Snake Eyes fans. Or maybe it was his doppelganger...
Either way this issue is an exciting start to a new mini series. Definitely recommended, and I'm very excited for the next issue.

Yeah I think the talking Snake was the imposter. It was meant to throw the reader. This guy jumps in and saves the day so it must be our hero.
But then he talks, and another one shows up.
Ack we were cheering for the bad one!
I liked this issue. Too soon to say if it'll be really good overall, but a good start.
I have a gut feeling that it's going to be nothing but new baddies for him to fight, since it's set in the movie verse and therefore there are sure to be issues as to which actual characters can and can't be used.

I liked the issue myself, a little short maybe but good none the less. I also have to say I thought the $3.99 cover price was a little much untill I saw that there was no ads. Now I don't mind so much. And this is the first single issue of a comic that I've bought in five years maybe even six. I mean I buy graphic novals and tpbs but not single issues. I'll be keeping up with this series.
