It's Snake Eyes VS Snake Eyes! Snake Eyes takes on the impostor from the last issue, meanwhile the old man he saved knows more than he's letting on. Snake Eyes might be the best martial artist on the Joe team but that doesn't make this clandestine operation any easier for him! With an impostor that not only looks just like him but fights in a similar fashion, how will Snake Eyes adventure in Japan turn out?
This is the 2nd issue co-written by Ray Park. As with the 1st issue, it moves at a fast pace and thankfully the art is very easy to follow, which is essential for the pace of the story. Bold, efficient, and most of all, clear.
Yet I do have some nitpicks with the artwork, concerning the foreshortening. On the 3rd page, you can tell that the part under the speed lines is Snake Eyes' leg but it doesn't look like one. At first I thought that it was a scabbard. It would have been better to draw an indication of Snake Eyes' foot to make the leg more identifiable. Instead what we have is the foot hidden completely by the lower leg.
Also on page 10 on the 2nd panel, the black shapes in the foreground are horse legs but it wasn't apparent at first. I can see what Lee Ferguson and Marc Deering were trying to accomplish by using the silhouette of the horse legs to add more depth. However, I think the legs shouldn't have been in silhouette, it would have been easier to tell what they were without the silhouette effect.
This isn't to say that the artwork is bad, there's just small things that are readily apparent and could have been handled better.
This issue has flashback scenes which are vital to the story as they provide relevant information for Snake Eyes' search. They are drawn in a manner that lets you know immediately that you are viewing a flashback sequence, so kudos to the art team for continuing this(they did this in the 1st issue too, using hand drawn panel outlines).
The story has twists and turns that I did not expect, and revelations that piqued my interest. Want to know who Snake Eyes' impostor is? Read the issue to find out!
This issue was full of intrigue, action, revelations and surprises. I definitely recommend it and found it to be more enjoyable than the last issue.

I couldn't disagree more. Here's what I posted over at joereloaded 'dotcom's forums:
"I read this last night and have to say I didn't like it at all. Super fast read, extrtemely predictable, and I didn't care for the art. Is this book aimed at 10-12 year olds? I'm really not trying to be funny; it feels like a childrens book.
I felt ripped off after I read it. I'm sad to say that since I got back into GI Joe (around the time SM: Manhattan came out) this will be the first of any GI Joe book that I stop buying... except Sigma 6 - never tried that one."

i skipped out on this one, as well. was not impressed by issue one and not all that fond of the movie-continuity. i'd prefer more things like the cobra mini-series part deux taking its place.

I liked it as well. It moved quickly and there was a twist. Overall, I'd buy it again.

When is this supposed to be out?

Very nice spin on the whole Arishakage clan back story. I like what IDW is doing with this reboot and I really like how this new mystery character is being addressed in that history.
