GI Joe Cobra II is one of the series that started off great this year and with each issue, never fails to impress. GI Joe Cobra II #3 is no exception. We are treated to covers by both Howard Chaykin and interior artist Antonio Fuso. Fuso's cover is very impressive; poster worthy. Graphic design elements are incorporated which results in a cover reminiscent of a movie cover.
Speaking of designs, the Cobra Vipers and Crimson Guards appear in this issue, and I am impressed with the modernized Viper design. I'm not sure if this redesign was made by Fuso but it's definitely a cool design that I'd love to see in action figure form. The Crimson Guard design is different for sure, but I've grown to like it a lot.
As with previous issues with this series, this issue kept me on my toes and nothing was predicatable about it at all. While we see Chameleon continue to try to resume her rescue operation with the stubborn Chuckles, the primary focus of this issue is Erika Le Tene. Rather than being a reluctant character caught in a bind, she takes a more active role in this issue. This makes for a very interesting and exciting read, as she has to deal with numerous unforseen obstacles. This also has something to do with the growing distance, and perhaps rift, between Tomax and Xamot. What I love about this is that we have something exciting to look forward to but can't really tell what's going to happen in the next issue(s).
However, if anything we've learned with this series that the more surprises, the better, as Gage and Costa are great at working them into the story. Characters are introduced, and sometimes killed in quick succession. This issue is no exception and you'll definitely be surprised to see what happens.
GI Joe Cobra II #3 is an excellent issue and worth picking up. The more active role of Erika Le Tene leaves me excited for what Gage and Costa have planned for her. I see this series heading in a great direction, and can't help but wonder; will Erika survive? That's the biggest question I have so far, since Erika's involvement with Tomax and Xamot will definitely put her in harms way.

I HATE the revamped CG design. As far as the Vipers go i could care less, I never liked them anyhow. However, the CG's are the only complaint I could come up with on this book. Cobra and Cobra II have been an absolute treat to read. Everyone involved should be really proud.

the pace of Cobra and Cobra II are excellent, they take good risks and have made characters interesting and even "cool" without sacrificing ANYTHING.
However, even though I'm sticking with the main title, the difference in quality and approach is apparent.
I dig the approach with Cobra much much more. I don't mind the slow pace of the ongoing, I think that's one of the pluses it's got going for it. I just think it's weak sauce and too much of the same, with a lame story and no character development done for the characters or very little.
I'm INTERESTED in the characters in the Cobra series. I want to know what happens next. It's exciting and has so far revamped things in a good way. Ongoing is just Hama-lite and lacking so much...but I'm sticking with it. It just needs to quit being so vanilla.

Just read this today...AWESOME last page. I'm still hating the CG design, but the Vipers are definitely closer to their original counterparts. It amazes me how easy it is to get lost in the story in this book, at the end of every issue I'm left on the edge of my seat. I love Erika's arc, and how we get to see inside the Twins' relationship through her eyes, and just the experience of being part of the Cobra machine in general. Chuckles continues to raise the bar for all other Joes...this book is like printed crack. lol
