Our friend Noel stopped by the HissTank Facebook Page to share the news of this awesome 1983 G.I.Joe A Real American Hero Headquarters Command Center restoration currently underway! The G.I.Joe HQ has always been a defining symbol of G.I.Joe and seeing one restored to it’s original glory has the uncanny ability of bringing out the 7 year old in all of us!
Not only does the G.I.Joe HQ have a ton of play features for your G.I.Joe and Cobra figures, but also has a ton of neat features that incorporate other G.I.Joe vehicles and Battlefield Accessories! You can check out the images of the entire restoration project, including finalized images here – This Old G.I.Joe HQ Restoration Project.
Do you own a G.I.Joe HQ? Do you plan on adding one to your collection, or is it simply a playset you have no interest in? Sound off on the Hisstank.com Forums after the jump.

Did he get the repro decals at J Ruben's? If so the paper decals are a bit larger that the originals, not sure why, but they have to be trimmed more to fit.
I recently restored one myself...

I like the acrylic cover he made... I'm getting the impression that's easier to do than I might have thought. Anyone do anything like that here?

I picked up an HQ in rough shape. Many of the paper stickers are peeling, and they had tried to glue in their broken stockade pieces.
What would be the best way to remove the glue without damaging the original plastic?
For the decals, should I go to a service like Rattler Repos?
Xerofall says
Goo Gone will remove the residue and not hurt the plastic. The only thing you do not want to use Goo Gone on is clear plastic, like canopies and windows.
Rattler Repros is the only one that makes vintage repros of that set, Cobradecals.com makes a nice set too, but it's more a customizing set.

Really appreciate y'all sharing my project. It's been alot of fun for sure!
The acrylic was easy enough to glue up. I'd recommend practicing first and having an extra pair of hands at the ready. Found a company local that could provide the sheets to spec. (They offered to glue it up for me at twice the price.)
Stickers were Rattler Repros. Did require some trimming, but I'm very pleased with the quality. (I've also used Cobra Stickers. They're first rate too. Nice that theirs are precut!)
Hoping to display this at the 2014 G.I. Joe con in Dallas!
