An interesting point of contention has shown it’s hand today. It would appear that Walmart Collector Con 2022 will be held the same exact weekend as SDCC 2022. Walmart’s Collector Con event will be starting at 7am PT on July 21st and continue to the 22nd, 2022. This will put people who are already going to be attending SDCC 2022 at an even bigger disadvantage as those of us who will be home ordering online.
This is gong to lead to major conflicts for people attending a sold out SDCC 2022 who already need to find a way to order Hasbro exclusives online at a Con they are attending and now need to stop for another round over several days for Walmart.
Stay tuned for more information, but one could speculate only that the Carded Retro Classified figures will be a part of the Walmart Collector Con 2022.

I think this is really bad marketing and planning for all the major toy companies to allow this to happen. It's already bad enough that a few of them are doing online ordering only for exclusives you go specifically to pick up in hand.
Now you need to stop and worry about when Walmart goes live while you are at the show and everyone at home has major advantages in ordering for both cases.

Not to quote Blizzard but you don't have phones?
Are we expecting any "in hand" toys at this point?

100% yes or don't call them SDCC exclusives . Then I can stay home and save thousands on travel expenses. As nice as San Diego is, at this point I've spent 2 years worth of my life there. I'm not even going this year and I am sad for those who are.
If you have never been there you can't even understand what a PITA this situation will be. If I was SDCC I would be extremely worried about this type of thing being-becoming the standard.

It is much better to order this stuff online and from home than to release anything exclusive to in-person pickup at an expensive, limited attendance convention. I never understood why companies wanted to anger their fans and collectors with hard-to-get convention items.
We knew Walmart was going to run theirs concurrent with SDCC because of the botched Purge Trooper release.
Hopefully I'll be able to skip all the SDCC stuff this year. I have no interested in Slaughter.

Wow, this doesn't sound fun. I'm kind of missing the days of the Joe cons where you could just go up to the Club tables to pick out the exclusives whenever you liked during the event

And are you mad SDCC exclusives are tending to not be show-only? I can't tell. Frankly, I think it's a good thing. Gives everyone a chance to get items. I'm not one to relish keeping things limited and therefore creating a weird haves and have nots situation. I think not having items show-only will reduce lines at SDCC which tend to be really nerve-racking and potential fire hazards. There's already attendance problems with the show, so cutting down on people stuck in lines and blocking foot traffic in the show is a good thing. Plus everyone, even those not "fortunate" enough to attend the show can still get items they want.
People should be attending the shows to enjoy events and atmosphere. Not traveling hundreds/thousands of miles just to stand in lines for hours. You'll suffer a hell of a lot less stress if you don't have to stand in lines for exclusives.
The only issue I see with Walmart Collector Con happening at the same time as SDCC is if multiples companies are putting up stuff for sale at exactly the same time. WM could have just scheduled at another time. There's no real reason to have their convention happen at the same time as SDCC.

From what I've seen there aren't many SDCC exclusives this year that are going to be available "at the show." Most companies (Hasbro in particular) have already said "Summer Exclusives" will be offered strictly online. It looks like they're trying to do away with the days of Con Goers spending 70% of their con time in lines waiting to buy stuff.
Wal-Mart seems cognizant of the scheduling: 7AM is before most events will begin at SDCC those days, so folks that really care that much can set an alarm and hop on their phone or laptop and order like everyone else, then go about their day at the con. Will it be mildly more inconvenient for them? Sure. Is it some major catastrophe? No, not really.
