The Night Adder with attack dog was released as part of wave 4 in the GI Joe Rise of Cobra line. While it didn’t make an appearance in the movie, like other off-screen characters, this figure was sought after, as well as it’s blue tatoo variant.
Depending on where you are, this figure was easy to find at one point, but now, like other waves 4-5 figures, its harder to find compared to waves 1-3 figures like the Baroness & Neo Viper. NIGHT ADDER: **** (4 out of 5)
Ah...2009, it was a year of overwhelming GI Joe ROC product, so much so that today we are playing catch up with a "throwback review" with one of the biggest, baddest Cobra mofo's around, the Cobra Night Adder!!
Fans were excited when his name leaked from Walmart's computers many months before his release, & speculated on what/who exactly he would be. What we ended up with was a very unusual construct, made from the then unreleased "Resolute Roadblock" from neck to toe (including the webgear), topped off with a unmasked/visored ROC "Ice Viper" head. It's a great menacing construct, making Adder very VERY LARGE. The head is decent because unmasked it isn't immediately recognizable as the Ice Viper. My only complaint is the open holes left in the side of his head due to the lack of visor, a unique head sculpt (of course) would be better, but from a wave of mashed figures from previous parts, this guy turned out great, mostly due to getting a desired prerelease body & a unique heavily tattooed body scheme.
First released in ROC Wave 4, NA & his comrades were elusive at retail, but thanks to revision cases, he was one of the lucky ones from that wave that made his way into fan's hands without to many problems, but alas there was a catch for completionists, that in the form of a variant!! It seems that Night Adder, who was the most tatooed GI Joe figure thus far, had a variant in his tattoos either bring blue or black in color!! Now I can safely say that the BLACK variant was far more common in my area, as I have seen him several, several, times at Walmart, but as for the elusive blue version, my brother found him for me only once at Walgreen's lol. I have to say, I think the blue is better, although less realistic in color, the blue truly shows the wonderful unique tampo-graphing (on his very dark skin tone) like in the words "Springfield" & "Cobra La."
Weapons included here are a previously released shotgun, pistol, & knife, but the best of the bunch (rather than a missile launcher) is the inclusion of the rotweiler mold (w/leash) from the Modern Era line, making this Security Officer even more of a threat to intruding Joes.
Unique Cobra characters are rare, especially by modern standards, so if you don't have Night Adder already, do yourself a favor & add him to your ranks, but don't expect to see the blue variant out in the wild at this point...
Recommended.

I bought one, and it is taller than the other figs, which makes sense because he's supposed to be a guard... a totally big badass sadistic bonecrunching guard. I hung a metal skull pendant around his neck to make him even more intimidating.

I would say the blue tattoos version is the variant with the black tattoos being the running change. I scored the only blue one I've ever seen at a Walgreens back in October (IIRC). I've seen a ton of black tattoos version at Walmarts all over the place. I snagged one as well. I like the blue better because as you said the tattoos really pop.

^ I think it is actually a variant Fast Draw old buddy, as when I ordered my case of wave 4 from BBTS it only came with the black version, so if it is a running change you would think that wave 4 would have had the blue as the original, with the black showing up in the revision waves... The black definitely showed up in the revision cases, but was also present with the wave 4 cases, making the blue, the limited variant imho. ^_-

Anyways, good review.
I think you hit the nail, this figure is "unusual". One of the rare cases in which a kitbash/repaint looks great. I prefer the blue tattoos too, they can be appreciated better, and gives him a bit of colour.
The vest is simply awesome...is it from another figure? I don't recognize it.
btw...can you make up your mind with pics??
First they where huge, now they're small. Dammit!

LOL!!
The vest is from the upcoming Resolute Roadblock.
The pics have been made smaller by request of the staff so they are easier to load for those with less powerful PC's.
Thanks for the feedback as always my friend!!

Might still be able to get a blue variant from WS_TOYS as most of the ones I ordered form him were the blue ones and he still has tons of adders in his ebay store. Only ended up getting the blue in package from Walgreens and the rest I purchased in the sates were all black tatts..

This is a great figure. Wish Hasbro would do more frankenjoes like this one. It just comes out great.
The blue tattoos stand out more.
He definately is a great figure. Would be nice if IDW could work him into the comics somehow.
