Today was Hasbro’s Investor Day event. In addition to telling us all how well Hasbro’s been doing (really, they are) and broad plans for Hasbro’s future development (in particular, increased development of the Chinese market with Armor Hero and other emerging markets like China, Brazil and Russia), came some interesting new tidbits, and maybe some hints as to what Joe fans will see.
First off, GI Joe actually made into the presentation! Demonstrating the strength of its story driven brands, GI Joe got a mention alongside heavyweights like Transformers, My Little Pony and Star Wars. The more interesting news was real information regarding Hasbro’s long gestating relaunch of the Micronauts brand (which Hasbro purchased full rights to all the way back in 2009!). The current plan appears to be using the hugely successful Transformers brand to jumpstart a reboot of that franchise.
How does this pertain to GI Joe? Well, earlier this year, rumors began circulating about the inclusion of MASK team leader Matt Trakker appearing in the next GI Joe feature film. Further, Hasbro and the GI Joe Collector’s Club have been quite amicable in integrating the characters and mythos of the MASK brand into GI Joe. Earlier this year also saw MASK make its first appearance on Hasbro’s investor material in its “Brand Architecture” slide.
Is this Micronauts relaunch a conceptual “preview” of what might be happening with MASK and maybe a peek as to what the future might hold for GI Joe? Join in on the speculation with us after the break.

I'm very curious to see how this develops. Depending on how they're executed, I'll more than likely bite on Micronauts, so I can't see turning down any new M.A.S.K. offering. I hope that the original recipe is revived (ie - inconspicuous vehicle turning in to attack craft of some sort). IIRC, during Unit-E, MASK was made to sound more like a Battleforce 2000 type of crew as opposed to what we already know them to be.
Toy Fair can't get here soon enough.

Hell I am stocked for Micronaughts news on its own, I have been getting ready to build a small collection of those and I would just as soon buy brand new ones.

M.A.S.K. and G.I. Joe are not chocolate and peanut butter.

Not sure if I would jump on a Micronauts line. It is cool to hear more of the 80s properties I grew up with are destined to make a return. I'm just not sure with my limited space shriking almost daily if I would back another line. I think the same would go for M.A.S.K. Now if they bring them back in Joe scale perhaps I would reconsider my position. I will agree with C.I.A.D Toy fare can't get here fast enough!

I hardly doubt they will do anything in 4'' scale or if they do it it will be something with less articulation.
