ComingSoon.net has just reported that the release date for the G.I. Joe movie sequel, being referred to as Retaliation, will open on June 29th, 2012. ComingSoon.net has also gone on to say that they have confirmed that no official title has been chosen for the film.
It was also stated that the Star Trek sequel being directed by JJ Abrams (also a Paramount movie like the G.I. Joe sequel) was originally supposed to open at the June 29th slot but will now be pushed back to the 2012 Holiday or even Summer of 2013, and the vacant slot was given to the G.I. Joe sequel directed by Jon M. Chu.
If the news is accurate, this puts the sequel less than a year a way from fans of the franchise.

ComingSoon.net reports:
The film, to be directed by John Chu (Step Up 3D, Never Say Never), will continue the toy-inspired world depicted in 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra with a primarily new cast (except for the returning Channing Tatum as Duke, Ray Park as Snake Eyes and, likely, Byung Hun-lee as Stormshadow). Newcomers include Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Elodie Yung as Jinx, DJ Cotrona as Flint, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye, RZA as The Blind Master, Ray Stevenson as Firefly and Joseph Mazzello as Mouse.
The June 29th date was originally being held for another Paramount property. the studio's Star Trek sequel. Though J.J. Abrams is confirmed to direct, the project will now see a release at some point further in the future, likely as either a December 2012 release or as a summer 2013 blockbuster.

That's great news. I really think the August release hurt RoC.

I have hope for this movie too, and I want it to do real well, but coming out within four days of "The Amazing Spider-Man" might hurt it even more.
Syn3sthesia says
Meh...at least I know sort of the date when stores will dump POC/30th/wtf is called.
ero says
Please, please, PLEASE drop "Retaliation." Ugh. So bad.
Nemesis*Prime says
If this is true it means the 30th line pretty much just got torpedoed. i hope Hasbro kicks the G.I. Joe line into high gear and gets it out FAST, but not I'm worried that whatever other plans they had for the 30th have already been scrapped and now they're focused on the next movie line.
Adamantite says
Meh. I like it a lot better than "Cobra Strikes".
Anyone think the club might try and make Joecon coincide with the premiere of the movie? Not sure if that would be a good thing or bad.
RolandofGilead says
This is a good sign. It means that GI Joe has gone from being Paramount's red headed stepchild, something to hide at the back end of the summer, into a true born sun. This could mean more money, more marketing, and the attention of the whole company so they can't slip by with half assed crap.
80sKid says
Unless Hasbro moves up the release of the 30th & Renegades toys to before Christmas it would seem to me they might get scrapped...
