Welcome to the behind the scenes panel for G.I. Joe Retaliation, the hit blockbuster movie of the summer next spring.
The panel will be a guided tour of how they put the movie together.
They are currently showing concept art of the vehicles. (Pics coming in a bit).
And now onto costumes. Not much to report here, just pics shown.
Weapons – Joe and Cobra will have different brands of weapons.
Now moving on to weapons of the movie.
All weapons used are real.
Wanted it to be more real and not look like laser guns.
Going over why people look the way they do.
A more comprehensive round up of what is being said/shown will be coming after the panel BTW. We only have one person there and it’s hard to type and take pics at the same time. :)
Firefly is the “Bobba Fett” of the movie.
Redesign of Snake Eyes
Not good for Ray Park. Limited his movement.
Too hot, rubber suit made him lose weight on first film.
New suit done for movement, and to return the look to a more fan favorite incarnation.
Actors used real swords when fighting.
Real weapons with real training.
The Rock was very involved with his action figure.
Redid his figure to be more on point, and make the figure more buff.
And now, on to the questions…
No questions about delay of the movieWhy is Lady Jaye’s hair so long in the movie?…….
No word back on that one from our team….
Got onto The RZA, and how awesome he is in the movie.
Really good costume, and impressive performance as Blind Master.
Lots of hidden gems for fans, more Cobra troops not seen yet.
That’s about it, a full text wrap up of this panel will be up on HissTank.com later in the day. Next up, The Hasbro Panel. Check that out here: Joecon 2012 Hasbro Panel Live.

So, no new figures shown for this year at all, like DG/FD figs, etc.?
No Hasbro question/avoid-the answer panel about why this and what's next?
Man, if they release that Cobra Officer shown in the what could have been pics, I'm sure they could sell a mint of them easy! That Officer looks perfect! The Stinger Driver too especially if they have a new Stinger based on the PoC/30th Vamp framework. Like the new Eel, grey Viper, Tele-Viper (!), Laser-Viper, HEAT-Viper and the blue Joe Diver alot also. If only they release these even at the dollar stores with plain Arashikage style card art like the first wave has but with better distribution!

I think that panel is coming up later today... if I remember correctly.

We will be seeing "new" product eventually. Whether or not that refers to Retaliation product we've already seen, or something completely new remains unknown.
Stay tuned.

What no panel where the hasbro execs just stand around and laugh manically while we gnash our teeth and wail about the toys we dont get?
Parc Elohssa says
Sigh.
This is why this movie BS has to stop. Now, I have NO problem with movies or toy tie-ins, but to STOP the line during the movie is just dumb. Overall, its hurting the line. Look at GI JOE 25th. It was really doing well, selling out in stores, we were getting nice vehicles, the prices were good...
Then the movie hit. Hasbro lost ALL the footing GI JOE had gained. The movie toys did mediocre sales at best. Most stores had to clearance it out to get rid of it.
30th was great, but it never was able to match the momentum the 25th line had at it's peak. It was starting to gain some ground, but then got pulled off the shelves so we can get the Retaliation toys.
Then the Retaliation toys got pulled cause Retaliation got poor scores at a test screening. Or, as Hasbro calls it, IT NEEDED TO BE IN 3D. No? That isn't being sold to the fans? Okay, how about...we need more Tanning Chatum. (Who, in a recent interview, STILL has NOT been contacted about Retaliation Re-Shoots. Hmmm.)
Movie toys get exclusivity, because percentages of these sales are given to top execs and players involved in the movies. More money. Having another line that was NOT movie related going on at the same time would "take money away" from these top players to want to have their cake and eat it too. They know they would "loose" money to the 30th, or Renegades sales, if the movie toys had to compete.
That's why the prices have been raised on the movie toys. To pay for this GREED. Sure, the retailers mark the toys up, yada yada yada.
Take this thought into consideration. In 2007 GI JOE 25th toys retailed at my local Target for $4.99. That was 5 years ago. Now, that same target it selling GI JOES MOVIE TOYS for $10.99.
Now, to add injury to insult, the new movie toys offer us less. Less articulation. No file cards. No stands. No accessories (but oversized dumb rocket firing parts aplenty. By the way, KIDS do not WANT these obese weapons. Watch kids play with GI JOE. They will play with that silly spring loaded rocket launcher once, then disgard it faster than an adult collector. Hasbro says this is what kids want, but this is the same people who run GI JOE. Look at what a horrid job they've done this year alone, as pointed out in this article. In other words, they're full of crap).
Let's also point out that Hasbro burned bridges with the Retaliation scandal. Retailers were forced to clearance out their inventory to make room for the movie toys (discussed above), only to have the movie delayed, and future releases of the toy delayed for 9 months.
I can understand WHY retailers are pissed. Target said they are going to "cut back" on what they carry on GI JOE because of this. I don't know about your Target, but mine carries 2 pegs of GI JOE. That's it. 2 pegs of figures....2 pegs that are almost always empty.
So, back to the movie toys. We're paying over 100% more, getting a LOT less. That's MORE than a 100% mark up from 5 years ago. Inflation does not expand this fast. Not even in this economy. This is nothing short of GREED.
GI JOE will NEVER be the toyline is so deserves. Canceling toys that had grown from a double release 5 figure set to Store Exclusives (TRU 5 packs, TRU 3 packs), large vehicle releases (Conquest X-30, Rattler), over 100 action figures made...to a movie line that did BRISK business...to restarting the line....to stoping it for a movie that got pushed back...to NOTHING that we have now.
This is why HASBRO is destroying GI JOE. And it's a shame. Look at all the potential it had.

I am not that disappointed with hasbro this year, for what they are as a dictatorship and monopoly they produced... kind of ?!?!?!
