Great news for those that have been following the Visionaries Knights Of The Magical Light Collectors Guide Kickstarter – The project has been fully funded and any funds received will help fill out the book with additional material! Join us after the break for some new details from OverkillWipeout, the creator of the project!
———-
1987 was an amazing year – The line brought us most of the line up from the G.I.Joe A Real American Hero animated movie and a massive playset in the form G.I.Joe Defiant Space Shuttle Complex. Hasbro had more up it’s sleeve for the boys segment that year, introducing us to what has always been a personal favorite line of mine, the Visionaries: Knights Of The Magical Light.
Visionaries told a story of society where technology/Electronics have failed and they, the people of Prysmos, have had to return to the old ways of Magic. This pits two groups of Knights – the Heroic Spectral Knights against the evil Darkling Lords. The line also had direct media tie ins in the forms of a 30 minute cartoon and a comic.
Visionaries also had it’s own gimmick: Heavy use of holograms, used to portray that characters magic abilities. The figures, being made by Hasbro, had very similar articulation to our beloved G.I.Joe figures. The line was amazing and thanks to Hisstank.com forum member OverkillWipeout, there’s now a Collectors Guide Kickstarter Campaign in the works that will capture this short lived, but highly appreciated line of Figures, Vehicles and accessories.
What will the guide cover? This Kickstarter projects aim is to produce a printed collector’s guide, a reference book for the toy line depicting the figures, vehicles and accessories that saw release, their incorporated play/action features and card back character information (5th Nov. update) as well as include details and images of the unreleased 1988 line thanks to community contributions.
The publication will be a 56-page (subject to change) 195 x 135 mm full-color paperback perfect bound book, printed on uncoated recycled stock and featuring a two color blinding florescent front and back cover!
The team behind the Guide have already received permission of use from Hasbro to produce the publication based upon the license. They have also brought on Mr. Bob Hall, whose previous work you may be familiar with from both Marvel and DC comics as well as Valiant/Acclaim. Mr. Hall has been commissioned to produce some snazzy cover art.
You can check out more details of the Kickstarter, and share any questions you may have after the break!

Yo’ Joes,
I’ve just launched a Kickstarter to produce a free printed collectors guide for the Visionaries toyline Knights of the Magical Light; we have comic veteran Bob Hall working on some snazzy cover art and Hasbro has given us permission of use to produce the publication.

For those not in the know (or thinking of Supernaturals!) Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light was a toy line released by Hasbro in 1987 and featured a heavy focus on holographic and foil stickers. The figures had a very similar build and set of articulation as GiJoe figures, but a tad larger and haunt ebay lots the world over.
We are planning, if this project receives the adequate funding, to keep going and producing free guides for other vintage lines that tend to get overlooked or forgotten, with the manufacturers permission (one idea we pitched to Hasbro was a guide to the Action Force line).

Sounds good to me. Will be nice to have all the info in one handy place rather than on several out of date websites.

Holy shit, Bob Hall and Visionaries?!
Will you guys be shipping to the US?
OverkillWipeout says
Thanks for the kind word everyone and that’s a good question Sperymatt, one that I really should have included on the project page to begin with (and will now hurriedly edit in).
The awnser is absolutely! The publication will be made available worldwide and absolutely free with the exception of a post and packing charge (which we promise to keep realist, we aren’t out to make money).

Good news (no we haven't reached target just yet)!
I'm happy to announce that the scope of the publication has now expanded (as a result of community members contributing material and sources) to include the unreleased 1988 wave of the toy line.

This sounds absolutely fantastic! I wish you the best of luck with your campaign!!
To All - please note that the Kickstarter is in British Pounds. The current exchange rate, at the time of this post, is roughly $1 USD to every $0.64 GBP. So, let's say that you wanted the Book/pdf and the 2 posters. At the current exchange rate, that would run you about $35, which is a steal in my opinion, considering what you're getting.
