Paramount Explains Their New Movie Agreement With Hasbro
We have entered Day-2 at CinemaCon 2018 and Paramount Pictures has already generated a lot of positive buzz even before their official presentation tomorrow.
Over the last couple of months, we heard only from Hasbro regarding their new 5-Year Agreement with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon (both owned by Viacom). Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos saw CinemaCon as a good opportunity to finally break the ice. Speaking to LA Times, Mr. Gianopulos stated the following:
In May, [Jim Gianopulos] flew to the Pawtucket, R.I., offices of Hasbro, the toy and game company behind such Paramount franchises as “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe.” Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner wanted to accelerate his company’s growth in the film business and have a greater creative voice in the films based on its toy and game properties.
The companies quickly struck an exclusive five-year production and financing deal. Projects include a G.I. Joe reboot, as well as movies based on more obscure Hasbro properties such as M.A.S.K. and Micronauts. Goldner said he expects Hasbro to make two live-action movies and one animated film a year with Paramount.
LA Times did not forget to grab a quote from Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner as well:
“Literally, he’s a database of what works and what doesn’t work in movies,” Goldner said. “Jim exudes a level of optimism and an understanding of the business, and a positive attitude that’s very infectious.”
With the above quotes, we now have a better understanding of the new Hasbro-Paramount Agreement which followed the disagreement between China’s HuaHua Media and Paramount. Thanks to all the revealed info we have so far, staff members at HISSTANK mapped out the roadmap. You can check it out, after the jump. FSS 8.0 Blizzard Revealed!
The G.I. Joe Collector’s Club revealed their latest FSS figure, Blizzard!
Blizzard led an experimental security team based at Thule, Greenland for an entire winter. Their objective was to determine what kind of training and conditioning worked best to prepare men for combat in Arctic conditions. They found that training and conditioning had little effect. Only the hardest and meanest men made it through the course, and Blizzard was the hardest and meanest of the bunch.
“The Arctic is totally unforgiving, You make one little mistake, you’ve had it. The cold makes you tired, and being tired makes you careless, and being careless makes you a statistic. Blizzard doesn’t make mistakes and doesn’t get careless; he wants to make the other guy the statistic.”
HISSTANK Coverage Of Hasbro 2018 1st Quarter Financial Results
Earlier this morning, Hasbro held their 2018 1st Quarter Financial Results conference call to investors and press. HISSTANK staff attended live online to learn how Hasbro did last quarter and what lies ahead in the future.
Hasbro is working hard to recover from the impact created by Toys”R”Us Bankruptcy. It was reported that a loss of $61.4 million was associated with the unfortunate event. With this loss, Hasbro posted a total $112.5 million loss in Q1 2018 results.
“The Hasbro teams executed extremely well during a challenging first quarter,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Hasbro brands are resonating with consumers and consumer takeaway is positive. However, as we discussed earlier in the year, our first quarter was expected to be difficult. We are working to put the near-term disruption from Toys”R”Us behind us. Our global retailers view this as an opportunity in a key consumer category and are partnering with Hasbro to develop growth plans for our brands. New Hasbro initiatives shipping in this quarter and beyond won’t be caught up in the Toys”R”Us liquidation process. With the rapid shift to a converged retail environment, we accelerated plans we originally had spread throughout the year to transform our commercial organization on a more immediate basis.”
With that, we wrap-up our report of the financial call. You can check out an infographic of the summary, after the jump.
