Hasbro has applied for the Snake Eyes trademark at the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office.
There are some interesting details to take away from this particular registration:
First of all, this is the first G.I. Joe related trademark to be registered in UK since 2012. Previously, a similar trademark was registered by Hasbro UK titled as G.I. Joe: Retaliation for the distribution of the toyline by the same name. Secondly, instead of Hasbro UK, Hasbro US has applied for this new mark in United Kingdom and thus indicating a direct involvement.
This also marks the official distribution of G.I. Joe toys (at least the Snake Eyes movie related ones) in UK since the filing comes under the category of Toys, games and playthings.
Additionally, this might be the first official indication of Snake Eyes movie toys other than the leaked Classified Series codenames MV Tarantula (Snake Eyes), MV Scorpion (Storm Shadow) and MV Lady Bug (Akkiko).
Complete list of official details:
- Trademark: Snake Eyes

Interesting. I hope GI Joe is in the toy aisles again, like back when Rise of Cobra was in the cinemas.

While I'm happy for the UK, I still wonder if Hasbro (US, I mean) is aware there's a Brexit coming up, which will probably result in Hasbro not simply being able to ship items from the UK to mainland Europe anymore (at least not without going through the whole customs process and paying import taxes and handling fees). A lot of European fans, myself included, currently import their Hasbro figures (Marvel Legends, GI Joe, Star Wars...) from the UK, something which might become a lot more difficult and expensive when the Brexit is finally a fact. It genuinely amazes me how little Hasbro seems to be aware of this... Their European strategy seems to be almost non existent. Pure in numbers France and Germany have a potential customer base that's bigger than the UK. The whole EU is many times bigger and even bigger than the US market. And still Hasbro doesn't manage to take advantage of this and often fails to bring their products to potential customers in those countries?

Odd since the original release date for the movie has come and gone you would think these would have already been filed.

Hasbro has a habit of applying for a trademark approximately a year before the movie release. This pattern is a regular one other than for delayed movie years.
But for Snake Eyes, they've applied before a year it's true, but they should have applied on October 2019.
