Wizards of the Coast (a Hasbro division) CEO Chris Cocks and Hasbro Senior Vice President Debbie Hancock attended this year’s Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference and TFW2005 Network attended to cover the event.
Sadly, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was omitted from the usual introductory speech. For the moment, Hasbro announced entertainment plans for Magic: The Gathering as well as Dungeons & Dragons.
However, the highlight of the event was the excitement for the upcoming G.I. Joe console game by the newly established Raleigh-Durham Studio.
Hasbro is proud to introduce Ames Kirshen as the Creative Director of the studio. Mr. Kirshen previously worked on the Batman Arkham series as well as Injustice: Gods Among Us in addition to the highly acclaimed Spider-Man 2.
“When we think about G.I. Joe, we think about the consumer who was 12 years old in 1990 or 1995 when G.I. Joe was like one of the biggest toy brands in the world. We’re thinking about, ‘Okay, what would they like G.I. Joe to be today as a 35 or a 40 year old?’ We’ve been thrilled with the response to some of the early concepts, how we’re maturing the brand, and how we’re keeping some of the core DNA but taking it in bold, new directions. We are thinking that there’s an amazing opportunity for that.”
As announced during Hasbro Investor Day 2021, Wizards of the Coast is also ready to tap into other Hasbro brands (including Transformers) for console game development and stated that surprises are in store for the future.

Being aimed at adults seems like a step in the right direction for a Joe video game! If we could get an ‘Arkham’ Joe came, I’ll be very happy.

So only console? I hope they know there's a huge adult PC market out there.

A big thing to consider is that Hasbro has a major joint project with Nickelodeon for the next Transformers series due next fall. In addition, they've had some major dealings with Netflix (who picked up the last "season" of Transformers Cyberverse along with the Stretch Armstrong reboot). With news a new GI Joe series is in production, next fall (maybe into Spring 2023) could be a big period for Hasbro
