When it comes to Hasbro, no one knows what lies behind the Masquerade? (Well, except maybe the TFW Network.)
Back in last December, our sister site ToyArk revealed that Hasbro has applied for several M. A. S. K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) related Trademarks at the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The story went viral among famous entertainment news websites. Jump to February 2015: Out of nowhere a rumor appeared stating that the Crimson Guard and Matt Trakker from M. A. S. K. is set to appear in G. I. Joe 3.
Jump to the present day: The TFW2005 Staff was covering the Hasbro Financial Call for Q2 2015 earlier today, and a slide regarding the company overview was available prior to the presentation (included after the jump) which quickly made us spill our drinks.
Hasbro has confirmed that they are indeed working on the M. A. S. K. property. It was mentioned as a new and upcoming project (new to the current generation). We should not foget that this year is the 30th Anniversary of the brand. However, the company was tight-lipped about this new project during the presentation. It took eight months but we now have the final confirmation that we will indeed see something out of the ’80s property.
What do you think of this new development? Would Hasbro pull off a Marvel or DC and include M.A.S.K on an expansion of the Cinematic Universe as a part of G. I. Joe 3? Sound off on the thread associated with this news post. Don’t forget to visit TFW2005 and ToyArk later for more information.

by DESTRO under G.I. Joe 50th Anniversary, G.I. Joe Comics, G.I. Joe Video Games, San Diego Comic Con
Another San Diego Comic Con has come and gone and there is a bunch of new G.I. Joe content to review. Although not much has changed with the status of the main Toy line for G.I. Joe, the positive vibe with the brand moving forward still remains. Derryl DePriest and G.I. Joe Brand Manager Mark Weber are still in charge and are working on the future of the brand and it’s return to mass market retail. It should be no surprise that G.I. Joe is viewed as a core fan driven brand at this time. The next big push to make G.I. Joe a much larger retail brand, will be side by side with the next G.I. Joe Movie that will be directed by D.J. Caruso.
Kids engagement is still clearly going to be a major focus for G.I. Joe going forward, but not at the cost of sacrificing articulation. The main line will still be modern era body and the goal is to stike the right balance between collectors and creating a jump on point for newcomers. Will there be a new scale to complement the G.I. Joe modern era body style?
IDW G.I. Joe Comics: I can’t say I seen this coming after the really awful way the Death of Snake Eyes went down, but it looks like IDW is going to double down on A Real American Hero and make it available twice a month. The next run will be called Cobra World Order, and if you could judge a book by it’s cover then this looks like a home run. I really hope that the book improves and gets away from featuring Throwdown/Fake Eyes and moves along. For some reason issue 225 was pointed out by Carlos Guzman as a point of change. I’m not sure why that was thrown out there at the IDW panel but I guess we will need to wait and see. I’m personally looking forward to the return of inhouse IDW G.I. Joe content, but no plans were talked about at SDCC 2015. G.I. Joe vs. Street Fighter is a big NO for me, and way past the point of what I include in my G.I. Joe Universe – especially when they can’t get the main G.I. Joe title to click with the fans. I know a lot of G.I. Joe Toy Collectors want the action figures, but getting people to read that content is another story.
One of the high points of the G.I. Joe SDCC 2015 coverage was attending the Toy Soldiers: War Chest video game panel. The game is going to connect with all classic ARAH G.I. Joe fans and there is a ton of content directly aimed at the G.I. Joe and He-Man-MOTUC Toy Collecting community. This game is not the Call of Duty – Star Wars Battle Front game we all want to play, but it’s a good start. The fact that you can line up the Cobra Army to directly fight the G.I. Joe Team and be in control of the action is awesome. Being able to beat up on He-Man and have vehicles and characters drop in the game in their original Toy Packaging is a huge bonus. It’s going to be a good time waster and I’m looking forward to checking it out first hand.
To round things up – fresh new ideas are going to flow into the G.I. Joe Brand. How Hasbro gets to that middle ground they have achieved with their other brands like Transformers and Star Wars toys is yet to be seen. Lets hope and pray it’s a smash hit and there is a new school generation of G.I. Joe collectors that crashes the G.I. Joe brand.
We hope everybody enjoyed HISSTANK.com and Toyark.com’s coverage of SDCC 2015. We worked very hard to bring you up to the minute information from the showroom floor and panel rooms, for all of you that could not make it out to the show. We hope all of you take the time to sound off on the HISSTANK.com forums and let us know how you feel about our SDCC 2015 State of the Union write up. See you after the jump!
